When I click to open, the screen will go blank and then come back to the app listing.

Is it a kodi build or stock kodi?

Uninstall kodi and re-download 19.3 from the rapid app installer, go through the instructions. After that you will need a addon.

I had this issue, when this happened I would have to go into settings and than manage install app
Scroll to kodi and force stop and than clear cache, not data, than it should launch
