Vpns knowledge and false positives

Curious @Miki what exactly are you looking for in RD?. I see all the Files in the “My Downloads” section of RD but why would I ever have a need to look at these other than maybe delete them periodically . BUT why would you ever look for something there? I assume you are watching the streams on Stremio?

I was comparing the various codecs that I’ve watched H264 x265, HEVC, HDTV, XviD, WEB, 10Bit.DDP5.1, 4K and on and on to see which yields me the best viewing experience for future choices. Just bored and learning mostly.

So far the very best I’ve found are the HDR 10+ but they’re hard to find. I am finding more 4K these days with 1080 being easy to find. I watched Kingdom of thePlanet of the Apes in 4K HDR10 x265 with DDP5.1 Atmos and that was awesome, the story, not so much, but visual and audio was YOWSA. Then I watched it in DV. HDR 10+ Enhanced .HEVC. DDP5.1 Atmos- RIFE.4.18-60fps to compare the two. Both were amazing but the HDR 10+ was just a tad crisper and brighter.

Oh heck yeah virtuosity, kind of an original movie. I liked it lots of action lots of crazy stuff in action! In fact that make a good topic!

Huh?

Oh… nevermind. No it was The Hangover and A Beautiful Mind. Or atleast i thought it was. I guess it was that movie. You had me thinking you had too many Coors Lights… lol

I’ll check the movie out.

What you haven’t seen it yet, it’s one of those old school. Russell crowe’s best days before he gained all that weight.

I’m surprised i dont even remember it coming out.

Consider it watched tonight.

Edit: @AJS1
Some movies deserve to stay back in 1995. Lol.

Maybe younger me would have appreciated it more.

And that was definitely A Beautiful Mind Gif. You set me up just like SID 6.7.

Hey, what software etc do you use to download for “on the go?” Streaming makes sense but…
I tend to only use the downloads like CinHD/Bee, with RD, on the FS.
Cheers

I only download shows/movies when I am going to be on a plane. No software needed other than a viewer. I download in KODI and watch on a laptop via Windows Media Player

Hoping I am in the right place for this - my IPVanish renews in a couple of weeks and I am looking for information regarding speeds on firestick. My Wi-Fi speed ranges quite a bit (between 50-450mbps) and at 427, the speed on firestick was 25 with IPVanish on and with it off, it was 250. Earlier in the year I had a lot of issues with IPVanish staying connected, although it has improved. But I am definitely interested in finding a vpn that is similarly priced or cheaper but doesn’t slow the stick down so much. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Just curious if your viewing was being affected or are you just seeing your speed test results reduced.

I personally dont believe the speed test results with a vpn enabled. I see too many variances between my devices and the testers to know which one is closest to being right.

My theory, if your streams aren’t buffering then i wouldn’t worry about what the test results say.

Find a vpn you like and your streams work well.

Thank you but I have done all of the tutorials on speed and nothing has changed. I have tried to get help from IPVanish but instead of telling me directly what can change, they provide links and nothing has helped. As for my viewing, yes, it is a problem. I know that you should be able to run most things if you get 25mbps but since my Wi-Fi is so inconsistent and often times is below 100mbps, it makes the stick less than 5, if that. The Wi-Fi is a whole other thing as far as it’s inconsistency but being rural, I have limited options. Much of the time it is above 100 and when it was below, I used to just turn of the vpn and only use RD links. But for the last 6 or so months, I don’t get very many RD links so the vpn has become a real issue and am hoping that there is another vpn that doesn’t drop the speed so much. The stick itself already gets half of the speed my phone does and then the vpn drops the bottom out of it. I did look at the ONN boxes at Walmart the other day (not sure if they drop the speed like the stick does) but I saw that the only two they had in stock were the $20 and the $50 ones and they had the same gigs as the stick so not sure they would be an improvement. If anyone has thoughts on that, I would appreciate the info.

Yeah get an Onn 4 K pro, $50. Proton or Express VPN are some of the fastest but not the cheapest. Surf Shark is always offering specials. Proton also has a free version you could try. Also don’t know if cell phone internet is available in your area. Like T-Mobile,Verizon home etc. Hope these help.

The VPNs are only working for the apps that are tested regularly by the VPN providers.

I am sorry—I paid an IT grad to explain, test, and review this entire schema. SS was honest about which apps they support / don’t support IF YOU ASK.

An IP MASK is only worthy if it has been tested on the app you are using—otherwise, your IP address is not hidden, have any invisible cloak, or re-naming. Frankly, after the HONESTY MOMENT, the business model became evident. No VPN can possibly support all apps…except the one you build yourself.

Thanks, I do have t-mobile internet and I would have thought being cell service, it would be more reliable than others but it is not really better. I have one tower .8 miles away and two others within 3 miles but their excuse is that they are jammed up from usage. Which I doubt that at 2 am in a rural area they are so jammed up that my service regularly goes out. But any way, does the ONN box slow speed down like a firestick? I figured that since it has basically the same gigs as the stick, there wasn’t any point in spending the money on something new. Do you know if any of the vpns are any better speed wise than IPVanish?

Haven’t found an Android app that my VPN is not compatible with yet. My VPN tunnel is established to my chosen server and all data flows through there, safely and without issues. So if the several hundred apps I tested work as they should and my VPN is also working as it should then I’m good and I’m safe.

Look very unpopular opinion here but take it FWIW. Been streaming over 8 years and don’t use a VPN. People come after me for posting this and I am no longer going to argue or respond because I fear I will be permanently banned if I do. Just giving you another perspective if your VPN is making your speeds so low you cannot stream

I have had Proton VPN for several years and do not have any issues with speed at all. I get the full bandwidth plus that I’m rated, from my ISP. Only occasionally do I get speed drops when a server is overloaded say %80+ but usually that shows up as buffering then I simply switch locations. After this many years I know where to switch to, depending on things like broadcast location and provider.
