It looks like Ugoos will launch the AM9 in July and the AM9 Pro sometime later this year.
They will have the s905x5 so will be more powerful than the m model but less powerful than the s928 SK1.
A new model on a new stone from Amlogic, which surpasses the previous x4 revision in antutu tests, 163,122 against 101,519 for the s905x4. This indicates the high performance of the processor. The RAM LPDDR4X 4 GB is really very fast, in the pro version, which will appear in winter, it will be expanded to 8 GB. HDMI is a new revision of HDMI 2.1b with HD CEC support. The internal memory is 64 GB, but in the pro version it will be expanded to 128 GB. Three high-speed USB 3.0 ports and USB-C OTG for flashing the box using a PC.
Specs below are for the AM9 which will release first, later this year (in winter) the Pro version should have 8GB memory and 128GB storage.
Amlogic SoC S905X5 Quad core ARMv9.0
Cortex-A510 CPU
ARM G310 V5
Neural network accelerator (NNA) with Tensor
programmable engine (TPU) architecture 3.2~4 TOPS
4GB LPDDR4X
64/128GB (EMMC)
Android 14
2T2R 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax WIFI 6 MIMO

HDMI 2.1b transmitter including both controller and PHY supporting eARC, CEC, ALLM, VRR, QMS, Dynamic HDR and HDCP 2.2/2.3, 4Kx2K@60fps max
So, it looks like the SK1 will remain at the top as their prestige box for a while longer. These will have Android 14 though, maybe Ugoos will update some of the current boxes like the SK1.
Seen this on the Ugoos telegram last week and it doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade other than the android version which doesn’t really improve anything for streaming.
I think Anth mentioned that a September release date was mentioned on YouTube.
I don’t see them upgrading sk1 or am8 models because as the saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I just curious if someone can build a device that can play DV P7 FEL running on android and not using coreELEC.
Well, I’m here to take some humble pie on my prior post above. The AM9 is out and after looking at some of the other reviews, I sold one of my SK1s to a friend and bought the AM9. This box more than meets my expectations and rivals the PS6 for overall performance at a considerably lower price. It has 64 bit processing enabled and the Amlogic S905X5 processor is definitely a step up from the S928 processor in the SK1. This box has Android 14 o/s, 4 gbs RAM, 64 gbs internal memory storage, all video codecs, including H266, Dolby Atmos audio capable, HDR10, and AI upscaling for lower resolution media. The video and audio quality are excellent.
AndroidPimp has a very detailed review, which convinced me to get one. But be aware, tariffs on goods from China are set to go up quite a bit on 8/29 if they and the US can’t make a trade deal. I got mine off eBay.
I’m really glad that I saw this post. I am in the process of working up a short list of possible replacement of my, dearly loved #2 Cube 2nd Gen. My Shield Pro is my #1 streaming box but every once in a while it gives me a bit of grief. I’ve got an ONN Pro but am saving that for when I get off my lazy butt and set that up as a Stremio only box. I am simply a streamer and get about 2-3 hours/day to watch anything. No recording and no IPTV for me.
I had narrowed my list down to;
Buzz X5
Mecool KM2
Rocktec GX1
Another Shield Pro
or just getting the ONN plus
If budget was no concern then it would be ultra $$ Buzz. But I really wanted to stay under the $150 mark. Most preferably around $100. I just bought a new QLED TV with Dolby Vision, and HDR+.
Anyhow, this box seems to hit all the marks for me. Thanks ya’all for posting this thread.
For video quality, with the HDR10 and AI upscaling, I pick the AM9. Don’t get me wrong, The SK1 is an excellent device, but the AM 9 has the better processor and also is enabled for 64 bit apps.
Im gonna wait for the am9 pro and see how that performs with 8gb ram, also maybe that will have dolby vision. The s928x is still the better processor but the s905x5 has support for newer video codecs also 64bit support.
How is performance compared to sk1?
Are you wanting a google certified box? As the ugoos boxes are good but no google certs apart from sk2 but not really a very powerful cpu.
From your list of boxes the onn plus is the best value, i would stay clear of rocktek gx1 as that has a dolby vision bug with adaptive hdr.
I think the shield while a gd box is overpriced for its age now.
Well I did some research on the AM9 and it appears that it is only available through AliExpress. I’m just not crazy about spending $100 on a box that doesn’t have a support footprint in the US.
$160 + 65 shipping is way out of my budget. It’s not practical since I only would use it several hours a day. The only way that I justified getting my Shield was a Christmas/B-day gift for myself as my better-half was in the hospital having a major surgery over the holidays.
For some crazy reason, in making my list I highlighted that the AM9 was $90us. For the life of me I can’t remember where I saw that figure, for heaven’s sake!
@Anth, I’m thinking that a Google cert would be a good thing and hadn’t really thought about it. Anyway, I found one of your replies, in an older thread, and I keep your advise, very much in mind.
I dont own either, i think the buzz tv boxes are overpriced, the new mecool seems to have wifi issues from what i have read on the forum. Iam running an nvidea shield pro and a fire cube gen 3 and they run without any issues. I always tend to stick with the big name brands and order from a place that it can be easily returned if any problems. I have ordered boxes from china before but they always have little niggles.
