Hereās my Ugoos AM9 Android Box First Impressions Video.
This streaming box comes with 64GB internal storage, 4GB RAM, Android 14, Gigabit Ethernet, 3 USB 3.0 ports, USB-C, optical, aux, Bluetooth remote, and much more.
I will be releasing my full review on this box next week. Due to the problems we see in this video with Android 14, I suggest holding off purchasing until seeing my review.
Thanks for your review. One disappointment with the SK1 is that although the 8gbs of RAM is enabled, Amlogic has not done a firmware update for this or released the same to Ugoos so only 4gbs on the RAM works. Very strange that Analiti would not work for you as I was able to get it off the PlayStore and it works just fine. As you said however, there are still some issues with Android 14 that need to be fixed. I was able to sideload all the apps I use with no issues and the biggest difference I see between the AM9 and the SK1 is the better upscaling on the AM9, which may be due to the S905X5 processor.
I have had this box for several weeks now (and an SK1since it came out) and the only problem I have had with the AM9 was a Tivimate update introduced a bug (after reverting Tivimate everything back to perfection).
Using Downloader and Aptoide TV I have been able to install every app I have wanted including Youtube ATV version, TizenTube, Syncler+, Kodi, Stremio, Tivimate, ImPlayer, Sparkle Player, Plex and SmartTube. All have worked as expected and Projectivy has worked using the settings toggle as you showed. I admit there may be problems with other apps I havenāt tried but those above should cover the vast majority of users of this site.
I look forward to you full review to see why you suggest holding off purchasing because I am at a total loss. The only downside I can think of for the AM9 is the lack of Dolby Vision.
Also, the SK1 with the S928 is more powerful than the S905x5 in the AM9. The S905x5 does have an edge in Ai processing power though. For most tasks the real-world difference is negligible and the other factors like OS version, 32/64 bit OS and memory differences also impact the āfeelā of the devices depending on the userās specific use. I wouldnāt recommend either for serious gamers because the SK1 is 32bit and the AM9 is weaker in processing power and only has 4gb of memory. Both are streaming beasts though. The Pro version of the AM9 will release later in the year and will have more memory so we will see how that helps its gaming.
I would recommend either the SK1 or AM9 to anyone looking for an AOSP streaming box.
One suggestion is that you should really spend a minute showing the built in ULauncher. I also use Projectivy but think you should at least show the capabilities of the built in launcher. It is pretty capable if you spend a little time customizing it and it is nice that Ugoos includes 2 different choices out of the box for those that donāt want to go third party.
Thank you Troy for the first impressions video canāt wait for the full review next week or shortly. Looking for options to fire-stick and onn google-tv if needed.
I wasnāt aware of them not enabling the other 8 GB or RAM on SK1 and that seems like false advertising to me. They should be honest with their customers about this.
As we always say, the newer Android versions always screw us in one way or another. These manufacturers tout the newer versions of Android and I say BIG DEAL as they donāt do anything beneficial on these TV boxes.
Will hopefully have some more input on all of this in my review next week.
Thanks for your great input on this device. It helps me with my review as well.
Regarding your quoted question aboveā¦
After seeing that Analiti doesnāt appear in Google Play and problems setting permissions for Projectivy, I just donāt feel comfortable telling someone to spend 150 bucks on something until Iāve used it for a good week and can report everything that I encounter through my review.
Please remember that this is a first impressions video and my review will provide ALL of the details and will address the negatives that I encounter over the coming days.
I just donāt feel comfortable recommending something where I see a few problems right out of the box.
If you have any random rebooting, try reverting Tivimate. On mine the 5.2 update cause it to random reboot for some reason. No problems with any other version or program.
What exactly is the system picker issue? Iāve seen people refer to it, but I havenāt run into any problems setting up my network share in Tivimate for backups etc. I guess I just donāt use some aspect that others use.
The main issue that I have encountered is being able to set up a recordings folder on a usb drive. Itās pretty annoying and both sparkle and tivimate have the issue when trying to setup recordings. As an example my nvidia shield is android 11, I have a 128gb sandisk usb drive installed. I am able to use system picker to setup folders for recording to the drive.
Troy, thank you so much for doing this initial review on the AM9. I am very grateful for your efforts. It was very insightful and am waiting, with baited breath, for the forthcoming in-depth review.
Many of us are nervous about the possible changes to the mainstream boxes with Amazon OS and Google OS. Having a device that we can feel secure with is important. So now I am loading up my piggy-bank to snag a new device and am thinking that the AM9 might be the one.
Again, I just wanted to express how much I appreciate you, the Troypoint site and the Insider!
Hello @teehar you are absolutely correct. What Iāve been doing is expanding internal storage specifically for recording purposes rather than just plugging in USB drive and pointing to that.
