Anyone thinking about the AM9 or any other China import should probably wait until US trade issues with China are resolved. The current de minimus exemption is set to expire on 8/29 and then tariffs will increase to 145%. Some folks got dinged on Canada orders when they bought the Buzz PS6, which is very expensive to begin with.

I have am AM9 and I have been testing it for the past week vs my Shield Pro and the Buzz TV P6. Overall PQ on the AM9 is far better, but the P6 is more responsive. But - I ran across an issue yesterday using TiviMate and the multiview. 2 screens are fine but when I add a 3rd the 2 non-active screen turn all blueish tint but the active screen is fine. My P6 and Shield Pro don’t have this issue. I turned off the Video Hardware acceleration in Tivimate and the blue went away but that makes all the mutliview screens all jittery. On the AM9 I also tried turning off all of the AI enhancements but still get the, what I will call, Smurf colors. Very odd. Does this sound like a firmrware issue? I did email Ugoos support with pictures of what it looks like.

Probably a bug from the chip being relatively new. Hopefully as more are in circulation they will squash it. I would think it has plenty of power for multiview.

Yes - I was up to 6 screens that where fine except for the smurf affect

After setting up my AM9 on the same tv as my PS6 and putting it through its paces, there is no doubt this box exceeds both the PS6 and Nvidia Shield in video quality. The big advantage for the AM9 comes from a combination of the availability and performance of the 905X5 chip, HV1, HDR10 and the visible advantages of Amlogic and AI upscaling. The effect on video is stunning. The hardware on this box is first rate and runs cool. My only negative is there currently are a few bugs which prevent enabling developer options and also prevent downloading of some open source apps. Ugoos is aware of the issues and is working on an update to fix.

Can’t wait for the pro version. :upside_down_face:

Maybe that will have the 8gb of RAM. May help on gaming but probably won’t make much difference on streaming.

I’m using the excuse of waiting for the Pro to keep myself from spending money. I have too many boxes as is but look at it like a hobby and always want to play with the new releases. Hearing the good reviews is making it hard to resist.

I’m hoping the 8g ram and 128g storage. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

It will have it. The lack of DolbyVision is puzzling, but I could deal with it.

It’s really easy for me to deal with that one cause I only have Samsung TV. :sweat_smile:

For movies I really ā€œcareā€ about I watch on a Ugoos AM6B+ with CoreElec. Nothing but an actual Blu-ray disc player can compete with it. The DolbyVision Profile 7 FEL makes a difference on a good screen, even my wife and daughter notice.

The AM9 would be for general viewing of IPTV and Youtube etc.and perhaps light game emulation. I’m really interested if the upscaling for content like Turner Classic Movies (TCM) etc.

Upscaling video with Amlogic and AI with AV1 and HDR10 is where the AM9 really shines.

As I don’t see the need or want the extra brightness of DV the HDR10+, having the extra metadata, just like DV is for me absolutely the best. I find that DV with the expanded color profile looks unreal and not to sure how to put it, but not natural. I only have a 65ā€ Samsung that at the time(2 yrs ago) was one of the best. I don’t have the room for say a 100ā€ theatre display where the DV may make a difference. My TV is also only 4K 60Hz. This is all just my personal preference and I am well aware that some do find DV is the best for them. HDR10+ is also license free and open source so can be found on more devices.

That’s good to hear. I’m going to wait until the Pro releases and hopefully they have the tariff situation and de minimis shipping figured out, so the price isn’t out of line.

Yeah, it’s all personal preference. All modern HDR formats look great, and it is splitting hairs. I hate how some people insist that things have to be one way. I have a friend who is always wanting to ā€œprofessionally calibrateā€ my TV so that it ā€œshows the movie like the director intendedā€. I tell him it is calibrated to my taste and the professionals and director can deal with it.

I still remember my 13ā€ B&W TV as a kid and my dad getting mad at me from spinning the UHF dial too fast. :rofl: These days it’s all good.

Absolutely. I remember when I was 7 and we got our first black and white TV. We were down in a valley with a steep bank not 100 ft away and I helped my dad install a 50’ self support tower to get better pictures, not realizing that I’d be the rotor for the damn thing, and would have to climb it all the time to rotate the antenna to get another station. Installed a rotor 2 yrs later. Lol. And here we are discussing which picture we like and how we get it. Talk about an upgrade. Be well @ScoobyDoosSpots and have a wonderful weekend.
