Itâs a write up,
SkyLinker Z8 has 2gbs of RAM and 16 gbs of internal memory. A bit on the skimpy side. What processor are they using?
Received 2 Am9s on Sunday and both are running great, very zippy. Playing with picture a bit and getting it dialed in. The Am9 is a great non certified box and will recommend to my family and friends. When sideloading becomes obsolete on Google boxes, this box will be a clear winner for a decent price for what this box offers.
yep it seems that way but it plays flawlessly which surprises me.
Doesnât glitch with any of the services I use
CPU Cortex-A55 and android 11. did an update and now is android 14
Network is only 10/100 but I donât have any issues there either
Plays everything well, definitely better than a mecool.
K3 mecool which is long in the tooth - I think android 7? plays better than the current model
asked mecool about this and they said it is all fine which I thought was a cop out, maybe they will do an update to fix the bugs, but currently not something I would recommend. We canât get the ONN box over here in oz and from what I have heard they donât work, not sure why not
Im impressed with the Am9, very solid and fast box. Works great and records everything I need on Tivimate.
After getting the Formuler Z12 Ultra, setting it up and using it on the same Oled tv as my AM9, there is no doubt the AM9 provides a better picture, even when both are set to HDR. In addition, the Z12 lacks the amount of video and sound settings on the AM9, and has no hardware monitoring features, in spite of costing $60 to $70 more. I actually prefer the Projectivy and Wolf launchers over the stock launcher on the Formuler. The metal casing on the Ugoos also cools the box better. To each his own but the Ugoos is a better value.
Doesnât surprise me at all. Ugoos really did a nice job with the AM9.
Could you tell a speed difference? Reading in the Ugoos Telegram, they consider it their âmid-tierâ box and that is why the Pro will not get 8Gb of memory, but I would guess it performs as well or better than the Z12 Ultra.
The AM9 is just as fast as the Z12. Ugoos probably calls it their mid-tier box because they also have the SK1, which is their flagship device. Just me but I like the AM9 better. It is built just as well and less expensive than both the Z12 and the SK1. Incidently, the SK1 advertises as being 8gbs RAM capable but neither Ugoos nor Amlogic has generated a software update and it doesnât look like that will happen. Unless you want to use your Ugoos device for gaming. 4gbs of RAM is all you will ever need for streaming.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this device vs the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019? Mainly looking at IPTV performance and wondering if it would deliver better results. Iâm getting Dolby Vision with the Shield, but giving it up wouldnât be a big deal for improved picture quality, audio, etc. Just wondering if anyone has some first hand experience with both devices. Thanks!
Update, the second am9 is junk. It kept restarting and no solution so Iâm sending it back. The first am9 i have is very solid and fast.
With the AI upscaling and HDR10 on the AM9, you wonât need DolbyVision to get the best picture. The Shield I had had upscaling, but it also had a clunky interface and remote control, along with more limited settings and higher price than the AM9. As long as you are willing to take the time to set it up and install your own custom launcher, (Projectivy, Wolf, etc.), there is no question the AM9 is a better value.
Do you happen to have the latest version of Tivimate installed? mine started doing random reboots and I reverted to an earlier version of Tivimate and it never occurred again. Might be worth trying.
I have both and prefer the AM9. My Shield isnât even hooked up anymore. The upscaling is better, but I donât know if it would be worth paying for the upgrade if you already have a Shield unless you look at it as a hobby and like to mess with tech and are starting to notice the Shield is showing its age.
The Pro version of the AM9 is coming soon and will have Dolby Vision but we donât know what price increase will be attached.
I need some help with my Ugoos AM9 settings. Iâve had the device a few weeks but have not done too much tweaking. Itâs been great so far and itâs a fancy step up from my 2nd generation Fire TV Cube.
My TV is an 7 year old Samsung Series 7 UHD 65" - Display resolution 3840 x 2160.
Questions regarding the settings in the Ugoos AM9:
Resolution: I have it set to â4K 3840 x 2160â - it changes to lesser resolutions all by itself. I donât know if it changes based on what Iâm watching or what. Why does it do that? Maybe it doesnât matter.
Automatic Frame Rate: I have it set to âswitch both frame rate and resolutionâ
Frame Buffer Size: â3840 x 2160â
Preferred Dynamic Range: - I have it to set to âsystem preferred conversionâ
Amlogic Super Scaling: - I have it âONâ
AI Scaling - I have it set to âmediumâ
AI Picture Quality Adjustment: I have it set to âlowâ
Please let me know if I should change any of these and whatever else Iâve not mentioned here that I may have wrong.
Many thanks.
(it occurred to me that maybe the âresolutionâ changes because I have the Automatic Frame Rate set to change both frame rate and resolution.)
Exactly. To use the Ai scaling you want it set to framerate only. Thay way it will always output at 4k.
Thank you. Do the rest of my setting look OK? Iâll change that.
All personal preferences. If you want to play with the picture settings take notes so you can set things back the way they were before if you donât like it.
If you press and hold the menu button (3-line button to the right of the home button) the picture settings menu will pop up so you can adjust while watching something so you can see how the changes work in real time.
If that doesnât pop up for you, what that button does can be adjusted by that button by going to settings>device preferences>Inputs & devices>Menu button to change what the button does for various presses.
Thanks for the insight, unfortunately I did a clean reset and now it keeps looping from home page and restarts. I can not even do anything. I sent it back, Iâve never had this happen and Iâve tried alot of boxes. I believe this box was defective.
Sounds like youâve done a good job with your settings. Make sure you have HDR10 enabled for a vibrant picture. If the AI picture quality setting creates any issues, simply turn that setting off. Some folks with certain tv brands have had software conflict issues with that enabled. Make sure 60 fps is enabled for your picture resolution setting. Donât be afraid to experiment to get the best picture.
