Ugoos AM8 or My next box🤗

I must have a look at that. Interesting comment.

Don’t forget to look in additional settings tab under display. Here you can further modify the setup.

Ahh I took it the other way As converting enhanced HDR to SDR. Pays to have the full manual. Thanks Ron. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Toss one back for me.

In my projectivy launcher settings I also see under display>>> 4K UI Rendering. I have mine set to 2160p (4K)

That’s strange as I have no pop ups when AFR is off. Only when it is on do I get a pop up.
Unless the app I am using has its own AFR setting and that is enabled.
I don’t think Stremio has a AFR setting.
Also you said the you have
AFR= switch to best.
I don’t have this option.

I have tested the HDR to SDR setting and it does nothing with SDR content.
The only way to alter SDR content is to alter the HDR policy in settings.
You can alter the policy to HDR or DV and it will play all SDR content in either.
That’s if the TV supports them.
It does not improve the resolution just
the colour.

Also I don’t think now the AM8 has any AI resolution upscaling, like the Nvidia shield either.
I have tested this on 720p and 1080p content and I can’t seem to see any picture improvement altering any of the settings.
Also none of the reviews I have read or watched have mentioned AI resolution upscaling on the AM8.
Some TVs have this built in so check your tv for it.

Edit
I have spoken to a member of the Ugoos team and they have confirmed that the AM8 does not have AI resolution upscaling.
They also stated that the HDR to SDR setting is for TVs without HDR built into them.

I noticed you have channels DVR app on your home screen. Will channels DVR Play movies and or shows on its own or does it have to go through an app like tivimate.

ChannelsDVR is not free and yes you use their app, which runs from your home server…etc

$8 a month and I can’t remember how much for a year. When we go on lockdown for this winter I think I’m going to try it out.

This is not correct. Watch a 50FPS video at 60Hz and you definitely notice the difference, particularly with live sports. Functional AFR is the main feature I look for in a device because I watch so much sport. It’s easy to tell because the ball does not move smoothly.

If you’d read my previous comments you’d know I already have my device at 50hz because most of the content I watch is at 50FPS. There is a problem with the AFR on the AM8 and I’ve found a number of other people who have discovered the same. We’re working together to test and try and find a solution.

I have the AM8 set 2160p 60hz to match my LG Oled TV resolution and refresh rate which is advised.
I have AFR turned off on the AM8.
As many know there is an issue with the firmware causing freezing and crashing.
I think your best option is to use AFR on the app you are using if the app has it until they hopefully fix the firmware issue.
I have had no issues with using this configuration for now.

Yes, I’ve got it turned off because of the problems with AFR. Letting my apps control it but not all apps have AFR control built in. Hopefully they fix it. Gone back to my Buzztv box for now which handles AFR perfectly and “toasts” AFR changes with an on screen display message every time it changes. Ideal scenario IMO.

AM8 Pro is due out soon and I’ll get one if they fix the AFR issues.

upon recieving my AM8 I went straight into “taming” mode upon setup.I enabled developer mode (jail broke)…then I rooted the box with magisk. The magic took place when I installed projectivy launcher(way more options avail with projectivy with root). I then went down the projectivy screen to 4k UI rendering and enabled it which requires a re-boot. After rebooting because of sizes etc I then had to customize screen font etc. After that all was well and working correctly with only remote issues and I still struggle with that on occasion but other than that the box is streaming with no real issues.

Not to sure but are you saying that by simply enabling developer mode and turning root on in settings that it fix’s the AM8 AFR issue?

Do you have AFR enabled on the AM8?
Have you tried multiple channel changes with multiple frame rate changes using different apps?
If so which apps have you used and did you have any issues with any of them?
If it doesn’t fix the AFR issues just disregard all of the above.

I bit off topic but a question for the user on here.
I have noticed nobody has mentioned the app Syncler which I think is one of the best streaming apps about at the moment and I have used a lot of them.
Have any of you used it and how does it compare to any others similar apps you have used?
I haven’t tested the app Weyd which is meant to be similar to Syncler but I may do in the new year.
Your thoughts on that would also be appreciated if you have tested it.
Merry Christmas to all.

To be honest I dont know if dev or root helped any. I was simply explaining my process at box setup. Its more of a routine I do with most any new box.

Yes AFR is enabled and most apps are enabled. Its a test/try process.

Many here use syncler. Its what I used prior to going all in with stremio.

Hi Ron. Seasons greetings to you.

You said you used to use Syncler, until you went all in with Stremio.

Do you prefer stremio to Syncler? If so any particular reason.

I am trying out Syncler at the moment. But have been using Stremio up and until now.

Appreciate your thoughts. Thank you

I like syncler a lot. It was a simple decision with stremio over syncler. Cost. Stremio(free) with RD(pay) VS Syncler(pay) with RD(pay). Personally I like syncler layout better but navigating stremio is not that bad.
