Ugoos AM8 or My next box🤗

How do i do a full shutdown is there a button on am8 any other way also

in the device prefefs>>>>input & devices>>>>hdmi cec>>>> device turn off/standby action <<<Make sure its set to turn off.

OMG it just hit me reading through this thread, we won’t match box for box.
Duhhhhh I ordered a UT8 not an AM8 :person_shrugging:
Do you know if that’s a good one?

Ive had the ut8 a long time. Its a rockchip RK3568. Its a good box but the AM8 is the latest with amlogic x928x-j.

You’ll be happy with the UT-8, Ron knows all about it, just not the latest, greatest. But a beast!

my ut8 is my golfing box, plays better than the shield

No bad choice with either. Indeed, a powerhouse! Can do so much.

TxRon were can i find that caddy for your AM8

Does wolf launcher work on the ut8 and if so did you need a launcher manager.? Also at this point should I switch to ATV launcher since wolf isn’t being developed anymore? Thanks!

I cannot answer part 1 of your question.

But i still have Wolf launcher on my Minix U22xj max and my AM8. The point being, they still work and despite Troys video of certain features not working, and hence his video on ATV, those issues dont exist on my devices.

Maybe those features that failed to function are on certain Android TV devices…i just don’t know. But Android generic OS devices seems ok.

I am not overly concerned whether it continues to be developed, as long as it continues to work.

If it fails one day, then i will look again.

Oh!! and i didnt need or use a launcher manager. Installed it and relaunched device> selected> use Wolf always as launcher.

any launcher most likely will work…most likely dont need launcher manager. No need to abandon wolf unless you want. The ut8 is stock with a root switch so you can do whatever you want.

Thanks @TXRon and @Dak7385 for your answers. To add, I know about that root switch being on that box but have no idea what it is or why you would use it. :joy:

odds are you wont need it, since the box is not certified its pretty open to do as you please.
IMHO what makes ugoos boxes so powerful is not much junk added that leeches the resources. The root switch while not needed for normal operation is handy for “just in case” and you know that deep down there is this desire to flip the switch and check out the dark side  :face_with_monocle: :skull:

Yep…know what you mean about the root switch. Keep reading up on it, but too scared to switch, cos i dont know what i am doing when i get there. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss, Especially at my age.:rofl::rofl:

@TXRon Although this box AM 8 is not certified, we can still access the play store. They must have found a workaround. According to github, boxes that are not certified, open up with such a warning.

Didnt happen on the AM 8. It’s not a big deal, just be interesting to know and understand more.

there are many different levels of the playstore but basically there is android-tv and stock android(or mobile) store. Depending on box certs etc, google determines access based on that.

Ok. Many thanks. Not a big issue. Still a great box that works very well.

google tends to slow roll app updates in the store. Ive also added the uptodown store to the box and I generally update through that store unless they dont have it then I check the playstore. Auto-Updates are always set to off.
