Nvidia Shield debating on Switching from Firestick?

I never looked but what is the front usb port used for? I have mine in the back

Front port is USB 3. the one you’re using is USB 2. In Troys original review of the kms he said that for some reason the USB 2 port for some reason works better than the front one when you use it as expanded app storage so you’re safe.

That’s what I noticed when I went to put stick in. I was just wondering why you couldn’t use the front 3.0 to expand with

I may just pick up a two pack just to have laying around to be honest. Very nice device so far. Never hurts to have back up and I may even move those into Grandkids rooms and use the ONN’s as back ups. I think for the price of the KM2 it’s a great unit. Id like that wood looking KM6 but now Netflix Certified

Not sure. You’ll have to ask Troy. Just so you know, on any computer or tv box of the inside of the USB port is blue that means it’s USB3 :ok_hand:

So long as you’re not in a hurry because it takes 2 weeks to get your order as it comes from the factory in China. I e ordered from there plenty of times and never had an issue. They do a good job packing the boxes too .

No hurry at all. This one took 15 days. I was ok with that and yes it was very well packaged

I guess cause I’m old but I just read this thread and am deeply saddened and touched to hear of your battle @Streaming429. I don’t think anybody reaches my age without being touched by this horrible disease :pensive: directly or indirectly, it is the real life boogeyman. You and your wife stay strong my friends. My wife and I will add you’s both in our prayers.

GOOD question! I am always wondering the same thing regarding the shield–do I, don’t I. I remember the issue with an upgrade a while back and the discussion in the threads was to wait to update. That had me, skert. It’s still not clear from the discussion thus far that the issue with 9.1 has been resolved, only that some have not updated. I assume if I bought a shield it would be with the latest, possibly problematic update?

Also, can you actually record on the shield? That would be my only reason to spend the money. I’d never use it for gaming.

Thank You. Very kind of you. I’m 53 so I’ve been around a few days. Lol

I have Amazon 4K Max firestick with a Ugreen Adapter with 4 USB slots and connect to it via 1gb ethernet slot. Now I use my stick mainly for watching sport, films, shows and TV. I do not game at all. I also use my Synology NAS box for storing my films and TV series to watch via Kodi; I also record stuff to my NAS. On my stick 2.48gb of 5.33gb of memory available at all times; I do not have that many apps installed, just the ones that suit me.

My question is, do you think I’d gain any significant advantage in upgrading to an nVidea Shield Pro?

Nice setup! If you want to spend that $$ by all means because you’re getting an amazing device. Mine runs so smooth and does everything I need it to do. Granted I’m not to that “power user” mode yet.

The shield has a built in server. So it can run plex media server from within"out of the box". I currently run channels dvr from the nvidea server and record to a 5tb external hard drive. So its very practical and cost effective for someone wanting a nas server on the cheap. Like I said what makes the shield is its versatility.

I use an excellent IPTV supplier who provide some amazing links and live TV, so happy with that. My TV is an old Samsung 1080p but gives me a good picture and do wonder how I would benefit from upgrading to Shield. It is a lot of dosh to pay out for.

From The Team in Kodi I get all the films I want plus in TiviMate I also get a lot there. Just enjoyed Maverick. My main interest though is watching Soccer (Premiere League, European UEFA comps, FA Cup and Golf) and that provides me with what I always dreamed of without paying outrageous fees to the likes of Sky and BT. I use NordVPN to protect me.

Finally I do not know how to use Plex Media and wonder how to go about it. Many thanks for your comments.

I’m same way. I have a fantastic service that has run great for about a year and a half. I may try The Plex thing when life slows down a tad bit in a couple months. I’m just now to the point of picking up different devices to mess with. Some Netflix Certified and some not

Were can I find info on how to setup a plex media server?

Just google search plex server.

Another big advantage of nVidia Shield is the AI feature with should make your picture even better on an older Samsung. As far as cost, think of it like a VPN. They make you pay
up front but quote monthly cost, therefore an NVidia Shield Pro is only $4 per month for 48 months, then it’s free!
