I’ve been using Mecool exclusively for the past five years and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
Troy mentions in his reviews that there are usually no updates but it it’s working well, why do you need an update? Tell me one Android update that has made a huge impact? In my opinion, they gone downhill due to the file permissions.
Security for an Android TV Device? This is a bit paranoid.
Funny because my MeCool KM1 Deluxe remote is nothing like the ONN but exactly the same as my old Walmart Dynalink (which also still works great – better than a stick). Ironically, I couldn’t pair the remote for the new MeCool and then realized I had the Dynalink in my hand.
Yea I think this isn’t an Android problem per se, but a MeCool mod issue. We might be getting the first colts out of the gate and who knows, maybe MeCool will update the firmware as they discover new bugs. For instance, I had no problem pairing my remote but others needed a patch. Let’s hope they roll out a new Rev.
OK RPL…I’m up and running, but not without issues. The Mecool Tech Support is definitely a challenge. When I convinced the tech that I knew how to do all of the simple things he was suggesting (e.g., restarts, changing cables, router settings, etc.) he sent me a software “reset” package that I could use on a USB stick to reset the device to ground zero. It worked! Found and attached to wifi instantly after the reset and set-up went without a hitch. I was told that I was not allowed to “distribute this software” - but know that you can ask for it for your use if you’ve exhausted all other pathways.
I had emailed Mecool tech support and this was their response. Seriously? Describe my problem and attach a video presentation. I ultimately solved the problem using an extra router I had. The KM2 Plus deluxe connected like it was supposed to. I have no idea what the router difference was. The KM2 was close to both, so it shouldn’t have been signal strength. I originally though the KM2 might have a reset. On the left side there is a paperclip size opening that had a click when paper clip was inserted. But nothing worked until I swapped routers.

That’s the exact boilerplate email reply I got from sales too. I simply forwarded my original email to service@mecool.com and they replied within 12 hours with a solution that solved my problem. It was pretty painless for me. I know others might have more complex problems so I don’t discount that they might be slow and/or unclear due to the language barrier and sheer number of tech support emails they get per day.
I’m not sure you’re aware of this RPL, but in the Settings/About there is a Factory Reset choice. Choosing that should put your box in “as new” condition software-wise.
I get no sound application from my Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe. Paired properly with both my LG 4K TV and my LG sound bar volumn indicators go from min to max and only get very very low background audio out. I am disappointed, is there a fix or is this just a bad one. Sent email to MeCool … No response.
lorichomd66 - about 6 days ago Troy posted a fix for this. You need to go into Settings/ Set Up Remote Buttons/Volume Control, and use your remote to turn the BOX volume up (or down as needed) - I leave mine all the way up. IGNORE what the volume level on your sound bar or tv is set to here. This is the BOX volume control. I know it seems weird the way it works but…hey I didn’t design it (it works that way on the other streamer boxes I own too so it’s not a MeCool thing it’s an android setting). HTH
Never seen an android box that was flawless. Anyone remember the Great Nvidea scare of 2021 I think it was? My ugoos AM8 has pushed out 2 updates which is rare but cool. IMHO…the less updates the better
OK, so the wifi issue (bug) has hit me too it seems. Several times I’m in the middle of a tv show (TiviMate) and the error that I don’t have internet occurs. I go to settings and the wifi radio doesn’t see any networks available. That spot is empty. I turn it off and on, and nothing happens. I reboot and after a few minutes my wifi connects correctly again…I’m not excited about resetting and re-installing all my apps again. I’m beginning to wonder if there’s an app I have installed that’s causting this.
folks , being a Dinosaur you have helped me multiple times ! Thanks. My question is, currently using the new Firecube what would the Mekool do better with its 4 gig of ram over my 2 ? I have very little buffering issues with the apps I use like weyd but do have issues occasionally when trying to fast forward or rewind . Thanks again.
A device with 4GB of RAM generally offers better performance for multitasking and running resource-intensive applications. If you plan to use your Android TV box for gaming, streaming high-resolution content, or running multiple apps simultaneously, the 4GB RAM option may provide a smoother experience.
The additional overhead of ram, from 2gb to 4gb, won’t improve the minor buffering issues that you’re having when rewind or forward is being used. You’re better off doing regular device reboots so that you can clear the memory cache in the memory controller. Different apps tend to manage memory usage differently and some tend to memory bleed more than others, taking up residual memory space even after the app is closed.
A device reboot generally flushes out the ram cache.
For your occasional buffering complaints, I’d keep a closer eye on your bandwidth speeds through your device, especially if you run behind a VPN.
As @Miki mentioned, for general streaming up to 4k, devices with 1-2gb ram is sufficient.
The elements of android box gaming, broadcasting, plex server, PIP or split screen modes with some services - will benefit from having 3-4gb of ram, particularly fast ram such as ddr4+.
In the end, the question of the value of moving from your fire cube to a device like the mecool…it depends how generally happy with the Amazon landscape and how your mostly used apps perform for you (sounds like you’re reasonably content). If you’re an Alexa fan - you can still repurpose the cube as a standalone Alexa device and stream with something different.
There’s budget considerations, of course. The mecool is $130+.
Ok so after having this happen to me several more times I’m about to email MeCool support to see what alternatives to wiping and starting over are available to me. This sucks. I had such high hopes for this machine and my experience with it has been pretty disappointing. Folks, the $20 Onn with a 15 dollar 64 gig Sandisk works 90% as well and costs 1/4 what this thing does. Save your money.
I promise I’ll update this post when and if MeCool gives me an acceptable path to fix this problem. Or issues a firmware update. Till then…
wjschulz and RPL - I am in an email discussion with Ziyang Wu at Mecool about this wifi radio problem. Have you had any further problems with your boxes?
I can tell you - mine’s gotten worse all of a sudden. I am rebooting 3-4 times to get the wifi radio to connect to my SSID and this is happening more than once a day now. This is very sudden.
One thing that I’d like to know of both of you or others who might be having this problem - Do you have “analiti WiFi Analyzer” installed? Also have you modified your launchers? Are you (or anyone else having problems) using ATV Launcher?
For anyone having issues with Netflix not displaying an image but audio still running. Through some trial and error, l found making a change in the “Advanced Sound Settings” to the “Recommended Option” fixed the problem. Using the “Passthrough Option” was the culprit.
Hey Miki, I still have not received the update for the Mecool km3 plus. Maybe its me. It looks pretty straight forward to update. When I try updating I just get you have the latest version. I see you are getting snow. How much and how cold is it?

Is about 130 euro. The gold one.
This one does Dolby Vision hdr hdr+ auto switching no problem.
Oh!! The weather guy here said Canada was getting snow storms and very cold temperatures. That made me think of you. I know you can’t do anything about the update. I was more just making a statement and saying hi to you. If I was in a place like you are in I would not be able to be go outside of the house my neuropathy would be off the charts in pain in that cold of weather. It is a dreary day here and the pain is terrible. Take care
