Fire OS 7.2.7.3 (7273/2622) is rolling out to a number of devices including 2nd gen Cube, 4k Max, 3rd gen FireTV Sticks.

At this point, assume custom launchers will be broken on all devices shortly.

Time is running out on blocking updates. List of ways:

Amazon locked frimware and os creates these issues. Its hard to custom anything when the os and frimware is practically locked.

The cube and stick are neat devices but if you are doing more then just a few apps move on.

I just did an update on my Max. First off I turned Wolf launcher off and returned to stock to do any updating. It didn’t update the OS from 7.2.5.5 to 7.2.7.5. It did add a new option for auto app login. It was set to on by default. It was under the developer options section. I turned it off. After turning it off and going back to Wolf I could not find the option, so I went back to stock and the option was now gone. No idea how or why. For now I’m back on Wolf without any issue. When the FireTV OS does update I’ll report my findings.
Have fun and STREAM ON.

Another observation. This nothing update took me from 2.36GB of free space to 1.97GB

They will seduce you into their web by offering you some shinny new gimmick to entice you. Then once you take the bait and do the update, You are stuck!

Controlling minds don’t need to know!

I read somewhere to get rid of the update fiasco, Amazon prefers you update to the new Firestick Big Max 4k® :eyes: because it doesnt have these issues.

I have a Firestick 4k that is updated to 8.1.5.5 - it now seems impossible to update via ADB to block the OTA updates. Previously 2 months back I did update a FS using ADB and installed Projectivy - that unit still works fine but now I’m not able to update 2 other Firesticks 4k that I have.
If I were to do a factory re-set and enable ADB before it connected to Amazon will that work? - or is it time to move on ? I recently got an Onn 4k Pro device - seems to work great but WAY too many ads.

I think the first thing the stick does after a reset is connect to Amazon to install updates so, no, I don’t think you can do that.

Factory reset will take it to same software version you are on now which I believe is already patched to block the exploit. You would need to purchase a new 4k max/cube and block the updates on the router following the video @Miki sent from Troypoint. I have applied the hack on newly purchased 4k max and I also factory reset a Cube 3 and applied the exploit.

Greetings - I’m sure I could do a factory reset and disconnect ‘just’ the internet connection leaving my network in-tact. With that I was planning to do the ADB blocks before turning the internet back on. Has anyone successfully done this ? I’m reluctant to modify my router setting as I’m fairly sure it will also block Prime - which I still need active.

Without Internet you won’t be to register the Fire Stick. You are wasting your time as this Fire Stick already has the update that blocks the exploit.

@JanS48 ….you said ….or is it time to move on ? I recently got an Onn 4k Pro device - seems to work great but WAY too many ads.

and i say….Yes….if the ads are just to much, why not install a launcher and do away with them….maybe Wolf, or ProjectIvy, etc. etc. etc…lots of choices….godd luck….
