Look what I got

I just got my NEW 4KMax FS.
I am in the process of checking all my play lists and passwords I
haven’t used in a year or so.
I’ ll let you know how everything goes, for those as incompetent as I am!!!
If no one hears from me again, something went horribly wrong.

Well here we(I) go.
I loaded all my TiviMate stuff on my 4KMax.
I understand that the TiviMate logo will be forth coming.
When I go to Other/ Recordings/Recordings folder I get
“/storage/emulated/0/Download/TiviMate/recordings”
Not sure if the “0” is a number of a large letter “O”
When I choose this I get .Select folder.
Now, I formatted a 256G USB drive, as external storage on my 4KM
When I choose “Select Folder” I go to and choose USB drive.
I get a bunch of folders. I am assuming that these folder really do not exist on my
newly formatted USB drive.
I any one does not mind me asking, NOW WHAT?

If you can try popping that usb drive on a computer to see if the folders exist on the drive. Often a format will generate those folders. If thats the case just navigate to the folder you want to record to such as download or movies. Then record a quickie and once again put back into pc to see if data recorded where you directed. Comprende?

I never thought of this question.
Where do the recordings go if I use the above path of “/storage etc” ???
I recorded a show using this path. It worked . and I can watch it.
Knowing where the location is will let me know how much “room” I have.
When I select the “USB drive” in the recordings location section I get a bunch of
categories but now files in them.
If I take the USB out of the 4KM and put it in my laptop should I be able to create a folder.
If so, I hope the 4KM doesn’t want to format it again.
BTW, thanks for the replies.
Terry K

“TXRon” , I removed my USB for the 4KM and put it in my laptop.
You are correct, all of these categories are indeed file folders.
When I choose one, any one, I get the message “Failed to change the recording folder”

Maybe @Miki knows. Being its a firestick I’m not sure about the storage issues.

With downloader installed, any time I wanted to record anything I just chose “download” folder under “downloader” as my go to.

I know ive used system picker to use a folder as well.

Yes sir that’s what I did. Been a long time as with apps like Stremio I never needed to record anything, but I understand those that want to for the kids or when traveling and don’t have internet.

A couple of things.
When in “system picker” how do you maneuver around the folders.
Do you need mouse toggle?
If I use the record path as mentioned above, “/storage/ etc” where is the storage?
I can record to it but I would like to know where it is and how big it is.
Also, when I choose a folder from my USB, TVM will not allow it to happen.
I get the “Failed to -----” message.

OK. Here is my next attempt to see if I can find out WHERE my recordings go.
On my 4KM “My Fire TV” I checked the internal and external space available.
I am assuming that the recordings are going to one of these places.
Internal space available is 10.61 of 12.86 G
External space available is 252 of 252 G .
I am recording 8 hours of UHD on a USA movie network.
That should be enough time to see any movement on the int/ext space.
And the answer is --------
Terry K

Internal if you didn’t have an external drive formatted for storage and not apps.

Between @Jayhawks659 exceptional posts and Troy’s, there is a lot to read, but damn if you can’t get it after reading them then I am afraid I’m out of suggestions.

Thanks “Miki”.
As I mentioned in my previous post I am using a USB 256G as my external storage, properly
formatted for external storage.
I don’t want to appear to be a nuisance buy repeating my self, but,
I guess it comes down to one question.
Why, when I go to (I am talking about TiviMate now) “Recordings folder”, then I choose
“Select folder” , then I choose “USB drive” (witch has been properly formatted in/on my 4KM)
Then I choose a folder, there are a few so I choose one, I get the message
“Failed to change the recordings folder”?
The instructions SEEM very straight forward
And the recordings DID go to the internal storage.
I record a lot of stuff for my wife and myself, that is why I use an external USB drive.
With my previous 4KM i was able to choose a folder on my USB drive to record to.
But now with my new 4KM I can’t.

One more tidbit of info.
I have two 256G USB drives
One new one that I am trying to use with my new 4KM.
The other one I have been using all along on my older 4KM.
Thinking that maybe the NEW 256 may have different looking(to the TiviMate) files
I removed it and plugged in my orig 256 with lots of recordings.
The new 4KM recognized the orig 256.
But, I have the same issue when trying to send TiviMate recordings to it as well.

If you want an easy, convenient way to deal with recording, finding a file, adding room for apps, the Fire devices are not the best choice.

Thanks “elginherd” for the reply.
I guess it comes down to this:
Has any one using the NEW Fire Stick 4KMax, and, running TiviMate ver 4.7.0 (Premium),
been able to choose a “USB drive” file folder, NOT " internal shared storage"
and record to it?
If so, would you PLEASE let me know how you did it!!!
You can post it here, witch would help anyone else in my predicament or by a PM.
Thank you in advance.
Terry Knapper

I posted 3 links yesterday from AFTV news that talks about the fire devices and storage issues with workarounds.

Thanks “XRon”. I will look into that.
In the mean time, I have an idea. I will post how it works

I tried renaming one of my file folders on my 4KM.USB 256 external drive.
I named it “Recordings”; since the last entry on the TiviMate folder path is Recordings".
No go.
The path shown on the TVM folder path is
“/storage/emulated/0/Download/TiviMate/Recordings”
In my mind somewhere in this path tells the recordings to go to “internal storage”.
Here is the path that WORKS with my older 4KM.
“/storage/F435-1A00/LOST.DIR”
This path sends all my recordings to the external 256 USB drive.
In THAT USB is a file called " LOST.DIR" , and, that is where all my recordings are.
I double checked this with the USB drive when I put it in my laptop.
TK
BTW thanks for the link info.
It doesn’t really address my issue.
Again the MUST be, at lest, on person that has done what I want to do.
Since Troy put this option of using external storage for recordings, it has to be able to be done.
TK

Did you use the system picker option when selecting your storage folder? If memory serves me correctly, this is an OS issue dealing with security restrictions rather than a storage or formatting issue.
