I have used both AOSP and certified android and I prefer certified but I have a few friends I set uo x88Pro 20 s for and found them excellent also.
One thing I did differently was to keep the check mark in Erase Bootloaderā¦also only one of the USB ports would allow the .img file to successfully load. I donāt know if that means a faulty USB port, or the box being āpickyā.
Can I flash the slimbox Firmware to a new straight out of the box x88 pro or do I need to boot it up first. Thanks
Boxes can be flashed right away. No boot up needed first.
Thank you for your reply
This is great. Gonna have to dust off the few old android boxes laying around to see what I have thats compatiable. I know I have a MeCool one and a couple MX?? ones around.

I currently own a Mecool M8S Pro L Android TV box I purchased over 10 years ago. I used the Amlogic USB Burn Tool. I checked the box for Erase Bootloader, and now it seems like itās ābrickedā. I have never been able to recover the factory installed bootloader and the Android TV firmware, so I gave up. I would like to install this SlimBoxTV firmware on my Mecool M8S Pro L Android TV box. Do you think it will work?
I have a MeCool M8s Lā¦.3/32ā¦All looks straight forward but where is the dang reset/recovery button? The AV hole goes straight thruā¦..has a small hole on the back that apparently does nothing.
any help would be appreciated
I have the same box and was looking as well and from what I can tell there is no button. Google told me that you have to take box apart and shorten something inside with a paper clip or to access the reset on your screen by pressing the button to the R of the home on remote control several times. I have not tried it yet but maybe you have to hook up to computer and hook up to TV and go through the process of Amlogic USB Burning Tool, and press button on remote several times instead to the toothpick thing.
Shows pics on where to short it out if you want to give it a go.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I also tried the erase bootloader option and that didnāt work for me unfortunately. Regarding the USB port selection. It is my understanding that the port closest to the power supply jack is the one to use, which I did. Using the other port did not work as I did not hear the connect/disconnect sounds. I also tried different USB ports on my laptop and the USB 3 ports donāt seem to work either. Iāve connected before as I have an older package on there now. Well, maybe Iāll try using my desktop PC when I get a chance.
I found this:
How do I ābridge or shortā the box for it be read by the Amlogic USB Burning tool? Again, I accidentally erased the bootloader, so is this going to work for me? Can I use the Amlogic USB Burning tool to reinstall the factory loaded bootloader? My PC doesnāt recognize the USB connection now, because it doesnāt have a bootloader installed. What do I need to do?
Hi. I purchased the same Android box as used in the āHow to Install SlimBOXtv Firmware on Android TV Boxā tutorial. Everything went fine (thanks to the great tutorial) and most apps are working out very well. However, I find that some TV apps, such as UK Channel4 and 5, appear without any video controls. Iāve tried to force the use of different players without success. Anyone have any ideas?
My level is Noviceā¦at best.
Thanks

Iāve got a X96 M200 with a S905x5M cpu.
I see I must unlock the bootloader first and there are scripts to do that in the slimbox zip. Itās not clear what to do with them as the Google Russian translation is very poor. Does anyone know what the exact steps are. I flashed it without doing that first and the box hung on startup. I had to put the original firmware back with the flash tool before it booted again .
Iām pretty sure itās because I didnāt unlock the bootloader first.
Hello @jss123 here is what I see on the SlimBoxtv website for your device. Iāve never had to do this on any of my boxes but here are the instructions if it helps. Maybe youāve already seen this.
Unpack the firmware archive and go to the Unlock_Bootloader/divers folder and install the adb&fastboot driver.
It will boot in Recovery (retaining the reset button in the AV connector and supplying power), press Reboot to bootloader.
Connect the USB A cable ā USB A to the USB extreme connector closer to the rear panel and in the USB PC.
Run the Unlock Downloader Unlock Script Unlock_Bootloader.cmd.
At the end of the script, disconnect the set-top box from the computer.
@TROYPOINT The male to male USB cable, https://amzn.to/4q4ch5N, does now work with the Mecool M8S Pro L Android TV box. I purchased this from Amazon.com try shorting the box. My PC never read my Mecool M8S Pro L Android TV box, so the Amlogic USB burning tool was not able to image my Mecool M8S Pro L Android TV box.
I performed more research and found Android TV boxes this old only read USB 2.0 male to male cables. Now planning to get this, Amazon.com: Monoprice 105442 3ft USB 2.0 A Male to A Male 28/24AWG Cable (Gold Plated) -Black for Data Transfer Hard Drive Enclosures, Printers, Modems, Cameras and More! : Electronics. Hopefully this works. Does the wire to short the android box need to be short in length, or does it not matter how long the wire needs to be? Thank you and have a Merry Christmas.
Hello, sorry but Iāve never done any shorting.
