BuzzTV X5 Review - Future-Proof Streaming Device

I bought the Onn on Ebay and had them ship it. The shipping cost was $26.00, more than I paid for the Onn.

As I ponder what is next, I’m almost set on getting another Shield Pro for our bedroom. I’ve been more than happy with this device. It’s perfect for our living room. Wife and Grandkids know how to use it, the remote is simple and has the find my remote option which has come in handy several times. X5 is going on sun porch for my sports viewing as well as out by the pool for sports

:face_with_monocle:my X5 has been demoted to the work bench and been re-classified as Not ready for prime time :skull_and_crossbones:… The Mecool KM6 has assumed duties as main TV streamer and performing very well and I see no reason for the km6 to lose its 1st team status. The Ugoos UT-8 which is my most powerful box and has zero issues was the main streamer but has been re-assigned to server duties and once again is performing awesome and will back-up the Km6 if ever the need arrises. With the X5 on the bench maybe he can learn by watching the km6 and ut8 on how to perform  :joy:

Edit…email this morning out of stock Well…I decided for this round to pick up a MECOOL KM6 to check out. At least it’s Netflix Certified which is all that matters to the Wife, plus the remote looks similar (in a way) to the Shield Pro

I had the 4900 that work with my eero fine.
Just exchanged it for X5 as I had ordered it by mistake.

Here in Toronto & around a great portion of Ontario, parts of Quebec & the Maritime provinces were without not only internet but wireless, TV, etc. for approx. 48 hrs. due to a “software glitch” with one of the major teleco companies here in Canada.

I was without internet from 5AM on the 8th till noon on the 10th!

Good thing i had stuff to read or i would have went nutsy-coo coo!

Hey fellow countrymen - lucky you aren’t a customer of Rogers (Robbers)

What a bunch of boneheads they are!

Would have?? I hate to tell you, but as a Rogers customer you are already past co co and well on your way to snake **** crazy.  :joy:

That was a really big ship. Down here in Cornwall Ont. I pulled my old Grundig radio out of the closet, I use to love this radio, not so much now. :upside_down_face: My phone was out with the outage and my Bell home internet was out due to a squirrel that loves to eat fiber optic cable. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Wow - talk about perfect timing/position?

I was wondering why i couldn’t pause Live TV & the first page to open was where i left off # 159 - read next 2 posts & found my answer. I had enabled TS toggle but didn’t do the other steps. Thanks to ‘bigivy’ for question & a big thanks to ‘Steve_Vee’ for the video.

Great forum for us newbies to learn from the gurus!!

Yeah but i got an excellent deal on 1 Gig Ignite Internet for 13 months or else i would have said ‘Adios’ to Robbers. Last Friday night, i was on the phone, waiting for tech ‘support’ from 9 PM to almost 1 AM - nobody answered. My patience got a huge workout that day!!

Rogers owns everything forcing you to only have one options, if you went with someone els in the area you would be using their network still. Bell rogers cogeco, all suck and all evil big tech giants.

I remember the talk in the thread earlier being about a faulty update to the X5.

When i picked up my X5 from their Toronto office, they told me the update had been pulled. Yesterday, when i turned on the box, there was a notification that an update was availabe, dated 2022714. I tried to click on OK but the screen turned black. After a few times of clicking on the Home button, i was finally able to download & install the update. Did anyone else get such a notice of the update??

Also, i need some help with pairing my Philips soundbar which i had originally connected to the TV optical input. I was able to pair the TV & was able with the X5 remote to control the power on the TV as well as the sound on the TV. I have since installed the soundbar to the optical input on the X5 but don’t know how to control the soundbar via the X5 remote. Can anyone help me to be able to do it??

TIA!

What we hope come about - which is long overdue - is that it opens Canada to competition. The big three Rogers, Bell & Telus (aka Robellus) have got too comfortable with their monopolies over their areas of the country they control!

The CRTC has told them to get their acts in line - i remember their being an American company who was ready to move into Canada (thinking Comcast) several years ago but apparently our BIG THREE put up such a stink, the CRTC back down.

Hopefully, this time, they’ll open the border to them. We Canadians will be glad to see the competition & a light lit under the butts of the big three!

Dam that sucks. My patience wouldn’t have gone past 15 minutes . Sorry that happened to you

Do you have the X5 with the Bluetooth remote? I believe the only way to connect the remote to the sound bar is via Bluetooth.
Hope you get this resolved . Dropping $200 you want to make sure everything is set up nicely. :+1:

Most of us in the 4-down nation don’t have any viable options for internet either.

The situation is improving for some though with T-mobile & Verizon offering fixed wireless internet.

More power to you if you got your launcher to work. I have the XRS4500 and added the update to Buzz TV 5. I downloaded my launcher but when I shutdown and restart my box, it defaults to the Buzz TV Home Screen. I have gotten used to it and it works well so it is now a non issue.

I’m still unable to pair with tv. Connected the $20 ONN box and it paired immediately with no issue

Not to sure @sim_bill about the xrs4500 but the x5 it’s working flawlessly, after reboot or unplugging it launches on wolf every time.
