This is a bad business decision for Amazon, because many users will switch to another streaming device resulting in loss revenue. Just how much revenue will they lose? That is difficult to answer, but I think they are underestimating the revenue impact.
Used 3rd party apps today under the launch anyway and after giving permission ran ok .
I doubt it. We are an infinitesimally small proportion of fireTV users. It’s no skin off their nose at all, and it appeases their streaming partners and studios. But we’ll move on to Onn boxes and AOSP boxes.

Are we sure Onn boxes won’t suffer the same fate? I would like to get the Onn 4K pro but I don’t want to have the same problem 6 months from now. I’m using Firestick 4K right now.

If you don’t want to gamble on 4K Pro money then start off with the standard 4K Onn box. It’s capable and only $20. Worst case, if the wheels fall off in 6 months, will you really gripe about the $20?
Most indications are that most Google boxes, and certainly AOSP boxes will be just fine.

As a huge provider of Google android boxes, WalMart may come under political and legal pressure to d/c their Onn boxes!
I see several folks have reported Cinema is working just fine and hasn’t been blocked by Amazon. This is my current experience also. Has anybody actually seen this image on their Firestick or is this just a photoshopped image posted somewhere on the web:
The only time I have seen that is with flixvision and Turks list apart from that all apps working fine
This policy is slowly rolling out and the person who posted this was in one of the countries that has already received the update which is either Italy, Germany, or France.

I’ve got an Amazon device (lite). It is running OS 7.6.9.7. I have since used Troy’s hack stopped updates and use (Project…) I have other sticks that I did the hack when they were running OS 7.7.0.4. The difference that concerns me is in the later version 7.7.0.4 they have added the function to clear all cache instead of going thru each app. Really a great feature.
If I were to return my stick running OS7.6.9.7 to Launcher Mang. and allow updates, this is the trickey question. Will my device update to OS 7.7.0.4 which is what I’m looking for or will it shoot straight to the latest update which would eliminate my ability to use the hack and block updates?
I don’t know if you of anybody knows this answer but I would certainly appreciate feedback.

I can’t honestly say. Once you start the update process you may not have the choice to just do a partial update.

i’m in Canada and not totally blocked but feel Amazon is trying. I use F+ and Nova to watch TV series and just two days ago they started acting up. The show starts then after a few minutes freezes and a notice comes up saying “playback failed”. I click on the play button which starts the “circle” and immediate when it stops I press forward which skips it +10 seconds and then the show starts up again. Its a pain in the ass but it works, sometime longer than another 20 seconds and so on. I have tried fast forwarding once the show starts and then reversing to the point I fast forwarded it and it again, sometimes works longer before the “playback failed” shows up. If this helps you great, if not, sorry and I don’t look forward to when I’m totally blocked on those to apps. P.S.. I am writing this here on your post as I can’t seem to make my own post on what I just said due to not being a “Patron” because I can’t afford that right now. (On pension). Thanks for understanding.
I sold my firesticks on marketplace and use the basic Onn boxes and they’ve been great.

Put the program to stop updates on my firesticks and they are still working perfect no issues whatsoever.

Well, I spoke too soon. Turned on my firestick(s) today and Cinema, BeeTV, FilmPlus, and NovaTV all had blocked exclamation marks next to them. Interestingly, I was still able to run them but I suspect the next step with be disabling them completely.
Pretty much the only reason I run Firesticks now is their compatibility with my Recast for OTA reception and, frankly, habit. If they do, indeed start disabling my sideloaded apps, especially Stremio, then they are history. I have a couple of Onn and Android boxes (and a Tablo 4G) that will gradually replace them.
