Didn’t ask to speak with retention, but I did say I was intending to cancel both internet and mobile.
So after 18 years my group Cable/home phone/internet “Agreement/Contract” that my Co-Op had with Spectrum is over.
I really cant complain too much as I was getting a great deal while it lasted. But now the bill is more than twice what i was paying. Not going to pay that. I was paying under $100 per month for all 3 with 2 “Premium” channels i never used. Lol
I am wondering if going in person is just as effective as over the phone. Have you ever tried in person or strictly over the phone? There is a Spectrum store close to me so i figured face to face is better.
My plan is to walk in with my cable boxes and cancel my cable and phone service.
All i really need and mostly use is wifi anyway. I’ll just go back to iptv. Already testing a service. My home phone was almost an after thought but it came in handy from time to time. Not going to miss it too much. But i will miss the sound of the dial tone.
Any insight is appreciated. Should i threaten to cancel it all? Would they try to retain my other services that i dont really need?
BTW my building is only wired for Spectrum or Verizon. So i cant really use anything else that i know of.
Thanks.
They probably aren’t going to give a rat’s A$$ if you cancel so I wouldn’t waste my time going in person although you will probably need to at some point to return your equipment. I hated Spectrum/Cable and was thrilled when AT&T Fiber came into my area a few years back. Fired Spectrum immediately. I pay about $55/month for 300 MB speeds (Get closer to 400). first find out what your options are beyond Spectrum in terms of high speed internet. Most markets only have a few and you are lucky if you have more than 1.
Yeah as of now I think only Spectrum and Verizon are options. Not sure how the other providers come into play if i dont need a hard wired cable service. I’m guessing you would still need service wired to the building for the router.
Is there an Admin or someone who handles your Building operations? They would know what other high speed internet services you can use. I haven’t used an Ethernet cable in years. 7-8 years ago Wired Ethernet was the way to go but now wireless is much better IMO.
Being Christmas time…the nicest i can say is they are no help. Lol No one even told us the “Agreement” was over.
I’ll probably roll the dice and see what they can do. At minimum i need a smaller bill. Cutting out 2 of the 3 services better do that. If they want me to keep them they have to wow me on the price.
I dropped Spectrum a few years ago and I now I use T-mobile wireless 5G. Its been pretty good. See if its available in your area. The distance and line of site to a T-mobile tower is kind of important.
Not available.
What are some great questions to ask an Internet Provider when one is trying to shop around and decide on one?
How about “Hello, anybody there???”
That stinks. I know ATT and Verizon also have wireless so maybe check on those. Lack of options is always the worst.
Yeah. Verizon only became available a few years ago but was way more than what i was paying.
I am going with the in person try unless someone advises otherwise. Now a days you never know where the customer service person is located. Hopefully with a face to face i can get negotiate better.
Just ask for retention or an account specialist over the phone. That’s what I always do. It’s a every 2 year thing I do lol. I mean they can either give ya a deal or you can cancel for 30 days and then be considered a (new) customer. They get all the nice incentives. Just be nice about it and chances are they will cut you a pretty good deal.
Thanks.
Do you think the phone is better than in person?
The people working at the Spectrum stores don’t give 2 shi$s if you quit. They don’t care
I’ll find out tomorrow…
Im just looking to reduce my new bill. Which should be easy but i dont know.
I can always cut back service and get a deal from Verizon and see what happens.
I’ve had both Att and spectrum over the years. I just wait for one deal to be done and see what the other offers. I’ve never had luck with the loyalty or retention departments.
This last time I am with spectrum. $60 for 600 down. Works for me. I did really like ATT for the upload aspect compared to Spectrum. But, don’t need it that often.
Just know if you are going to be using WiFi a lot. Don’t expect either or anyone to figure that out for you if you have dead spots, slow speeds. They will just try to get you to get their extenders. If you live in like a flat floor plan, Usually decent. But like a home 3 different levels. Expect slow speeds. TP link has been good for me. Hard wired I never had an issue. Wi-Fi pain in the butt sometimes. Ask them if they will throw in free wifi extenders.
Good luck
phone is where you can talk to an actual (account specialist) store doesn’t have those, and like mark stated, they don’t care.
Gotcha. I decided to wait until after Christmas to make the changes. Too cold and too much going on right now.
My billing period wont change until the 29th so i think i will go in store on 26th and ask for an acceptable downgrade price.
If they dont offer an acceptable plan i will leave the store with the current service and contact verizon. Set up a verizon installation date and then cancel via the phone. Their last chance to keep me until i try VZ for a month or more.
Happy Birthday @JPM69……
