Does anybody have any input or having the same issues?
I’ve got two ONN devices. One is from the original sale and the second was when it was restocked at my local store.
On the original no problem installing an external drive, using San Disk USB 3.0.
Same unit when I pair my digital keyboard, using an iPazzPort, it says pairing successful but when I go into the Downloader App it doesn’t allow me to type anything. I’ve tried other platforms (Silk Browser) and got the same result.
The second ONN device, purchased after the unit was restocked, will not install the external device. The OTG cable that I used works perfectly on a Firestick. I swapped it out just to see that it was functioning well. And the drive has already been formatted to Fat 32.
The second device also pairs the iPazzPort but will not allow typing anything.

Sorry for being vague. The ONN device in question is the 4K model not the new one.

I just resurrected an old ONN box and am having the same issue. There is no way I can type anything into Downloader to get to the Tool Box using the original remote. I have Lean Back on Fire installed and maybe that is causing the issue?
I have both the original ONN box from a year or two ago, and the newer 4K ONN box. I tried connecting a Bluetooth keyboard to the older ONN box, and couldn’t get it to work either. However, using a USB hub, I was able to connect both a flash drive and a USB keyboard to an OTG cable (on the old ONN box). I used the keyboard to issue the commands to enable the flash drive as internal storage. It worked well and was much easier than using the onscreen keyboard.
Hello Bob,
My issue is with the second 4K ONN device I purchased after the first was sold out and than restocked. The original ONN $19.88 allowed me to install external storage using an OTG cable. When I paired my Ipazz Port digital keyboard, the device confirmed that it paired but the keyboard wouldn’t type anything anywhere, but it does have external storage.
The second ONN $19.88, the one a few weeks later after it was restocked would not even acknowledge the San Disk 3.0 stick and when I paired my keyboard, same thing, said it was paired but would not function.
I also tried with a SMAYS USB hub with the same results.
Are you using a keyboard that comes with a dongle, apparently to be inserted into the hub or do you pair thru the devices settings?

Just to be clear, I haven’t tried the USB keyboard on the ONN 4K box, just the previous version. However, I suspect it would work similarly on the 4K box. I used an old Dell USB keyboard (wired). I didn’t have to do anything to get it to work. I launched Remote ADB to issue the commands to make my flash drive mount as internal, and after Remote ADB launched, the USB keyboard was active and working.
As for your second ONN 4K device, the only thing I can suggest is that you restore to factory settings (from within Device Preferences as I recall) and start over and see if that solves the problem. My ONN 4K works fine with the Sandisk USB drive
Hi, I have both an older android tv and newer google tv box. I use a bluetooth keyboard logitech k400 and sandisk 3.0 64 gig usb drive. Both work on both boxes. I use a three leg otg cable. I would make sure usb debugging is turned off under system settings. Shut off box, plug in devices and then plug in the box. The boxes should recognize the drive and the keyboard should just work. I have a friend with another keyboard and it works on the older box, but not fully on the new box. May be just a hardware issue…
It’s hit and miss it may work or may not work for external storage it has always been this way for these devices. Using otg cable for anything is the same hit and miss. But if enough people makes Walmart aware they may make it a priority in next device or maybe an update could implement this capability in the devices. I always watch a few different device reviews before buying a device so I have more of an idea of what I’m getting into.
Thank you for your input 3825-968
I tried contacting the vendor. I guess the power of one nowhere competes with the power of many.
It was like communicating with wood.
I’ve had both devices about 7 months and all they could tell me was the return policy is 30 days and maybe I should go to the store and talk to a manager.
No tech support, no reaching out to the manufacturer for possible update support.
I can’t complain about the price but if a product is built for for a specific institution there should be a workaround to get the bugs out, not just walk away from it.
Best Regards and Happy Holidays…

You do know that the new device runs Android 12 and the old device runs Android 9 or 11? It’s how the security is set up to stop application interference.
USB debugging has to be off in the new device, while it can remain on in the old device.
With all the trouble with USB connections you might be better off getting a cheap NAS solution. My cheapest solution was a used router with attached USB that runs SMB2 for $30.
Thank you Ellteejak for your assistance.
Both of my Walmart ONN devices are running Android 12. Maybe I confused the issue by calling one old and one new. Both are the same generation devices. I bought one at the initial offering and the second a few weeks later after restocking.
The device that would not install external drive had USB debugging turned on, so I turned it off and was able to install the external drive. ( Both units still have a glitch. When I pair my iPazz Port digital keyboard, both units pair succsesfully but will not type anything into a search engine or Downloader for example) Hope there is an update in the future. I hit a brick wall trying to get tech help from the vendor.)
I am running Wolf Launcher as a home page on both devices as per the initial setup video.
On the first device I had external storage installed before I installed Wolf Launcher, Launcher Manager, Jio Pages etc. When I installed those apps they went directly to the external drive. The only app I moved back to internal storage was Wolf Launcher and when I shut down, I force close everything except Wolf Launcher and my VPN and clear cache on everything.
The second device, the one that I just installed the external drive, the device let me move some apps to external storage using X-plore. Any app that I added when I changed from Google to Wolf Launcher would not move. I tried to go back to Google home page and move them and they still were unable. When I choose move in X-plore it didn’t pull up an apk file on those apps, it showed a zip file and would not move.
Is there any work around for this without uninstalling and starting from scratch with Wolf Launcher?

Moving applications around is above my skill level. I just do not trust everything to work. Am finding many just get a ROKU for the known good apps, and then use the ONN for experiments. That takes you down to lots more space on the ONN
ONN is Walmart so you can’t expect a grocery store to know how to deal with electronics and streaming devices when they have never manufactured them before and their specialty is stocking grocery. But they know that and they let you replace any of the ONN electronics or refund if it is still within return window and the external storage feature was never apart of the device capabilities so until they add it. It will continue to be hit and miss
Thank you for your previous assistance.
Turning off the USB debugging on the second device allowed me to install external storage.
That being said, it created a new issue that I have not been able to successfully research.
I am running Wolf Launcher as a home page, which in fact I like.
It seems that because I installed the external drive after the Wolf Launcher installation any app associated with that installation will not move to the external drive. (Launcher Manager, Sideload Launcher, Wolf Launcher, Jio Sphere and Fast Track Killer)
I have tried thru the ONN device but the window won’t open to move any of these apps.
I also tried the X-plore app and when I tried to move any of those apps instead of an apk file it pulls up a zip file and I get a message that it can’t transfer all files. (See attached, Fast Track Killer is the only app that showed an APK file but still would not move.)
I am looking for a work around because the only other alternative I can come up with is to uninstall and reinstall. I would assume all the apps would go to the external drive because it is already installed.
On the first device, which apparently I did correctly. all those apps went to the external drive and seem to be functioning correctly.
The only apps I don’t run on the external are my VPN, Kodi and a Sports apk.

I do not have an answer for all your Onn issues but I just want you to understand there’s absolutely no need to keep an APK file an APK is simply an installation file for an app that you can get at any given time through the Amazon app store Play store or whatever library you use, not to mention a lot of other very valuable safe and secure libraries out there, so an APK is unnecessary once your application is installed it should be just simply destroyed deleted whatever you want to call it wiped right off your device to save space. It could simply be that your device is trying to activate that APK file and maybe it does not have the permission to do that at the storage location where you’ve placed it.
My experience with X-plore is when you choose move it pulls up the apk file to uninstall from internal drive then install into external drive and then delete the apk file. I understand once I move the installation data I no longer need the file.
My problem is under both situations, using the ONN device to move the app or using X-plore to move the app, the app will not move and the only difference I can discern is that on the first device I installed all the apps (with external drive already installed) from Troy’s video while I was using google as a homepage and then went to Wolf Launcher.
While on the second device I had Wolf Launcher running as my home page and then installed external drive. At that point all the apps associated with the Wolf launcher installation will not move to external: (Launcher Manager, Sideload Launcher, Wolf Launcher, Jio Sphere and Fast Track Killer).
I hope I was able to clarify .

I use X-plore all the time and it doesn’t delete the APK file and then reinstall it. if you select move it moves the APK, but there’s absolutely no need to move the APK file, that’s the point I’m making, it’s a waste of time, it’s not needed once you have the application installed the APK which is an Android package kit is no longer needed, so don’t waste your time trying to move it. Maybe explore is trying to activate it, wherever you have it stored and you haven’t got X-plore set up to install unknown applications or third party applications I don’t know how you’re onn is configured, or set up, all I’m telling you is there’s no need to move it, don’t waste your time, if you want to try and move the app files go ahead but you should not move any major files like Kodi files, your VPN files, Launcher mgr, Wolf launcher, and so on, you should not move them to external they should always be kept on the box for maximum access and the quickest speeds possible. Moving it to an external now adds an extra depth of an In-N-Out operation in which it requires extra effort to do and slow the system down and could cause never ending problems, so you’ll only want to do things like maybe a scanner a virus scanner or something onto external not your major apps.
I’m obviously not being clear, I am sorry.
In E-plore when I try to move an app from internal to external, I hit move, it asks me if I want to delete the app from internal and I choose yes, then it creates an apk file in Downloader on the right side column and asks me if I want to install. When I install the app goes to the external and then it gives me the choice to delete the apk file and I am done.
This process does not seem to work now that I had Wolf Launcher etc. installed, before the installation of the external drive.
I hope I am being articulate.

There is a complete guide on all of this on troypoint website that’s where I thought you got the idea from. He shows step by step how to do all of this and if I’m remembering correctly from the tutorial think you have to set up external storage first then install the apps you want to use on external storage. If you can’t find the tutorials let me know I will reply with the link to the tutorial.
Here is the tutorial I used to do this on the ONN box from 2021 How to Enable Android TV Adoptable Storage for Both Supporting and Non-Supporting Devices
