Walmart buys Vizio: A new OS, more advertising on your Walmart TV?
I was just getting ready to post this . Had the link on my clipboard
My worry with this deal is Walmart changing the OS on their onn tv boxes from Google TV to the SmartCast OS used on Vizio TVs
I hope not but from what i’m seeing from all these giant corps it’s not looking good and everyday they make stock android or any other platform look even better.
If that happens then I’ll switch to Chromecast with Google TV.
Walmart is officially buying Vizio, focused on SmartCast
Yep, you’ll see endless ads for Walmart + and Walmart InHome grocery service
yeppers, They all want your focus on them and their products and could care less about what you want. Onward through the fog… Ugoos…Mecool…BuzzTV…Formuler etc…
lol now the free Telly sets aren’t looking so bad.
It will be interesting to see what Walmart decides to integrate into the Vizio OS - as they dig their claws deeper into the software to optimize ad marketing.
I’m curious to see if they bake in an Onn setup into the televisions in the near future.
Isn’t there a current thread discussing that Google TV might possibly crack down on side-loading?
Maybe Walmart will do a better job with Vizio. I have a Vizio OLED and a Vizio elevate sound bar 5.1.4. Vizio was going to send me out a new sound bar and then told me multiple excuses because I purchased it as a open box excellent from Best Buy something you won’t find on the internet but Best Buy on open box items offers a one-year warranty in store. I researched the heck out of it a Walmart employee told me but they don’t list it on their website only on old documents on the internet that’s hard to find. As for Vizio I enjoy my setup although when they first came out with the Vizio elevate in 2019 I believe they had some problems it still does but I know how to work through them now. But Vizio went as far as having me leave about $1,000 on a credit card in case I didn’t send the old one back after a couple of days of doing that I called them and they told me that they weren’t going to cover it but they also besides the Best Buy open box reason they try to say that the sound bar was made in 2019 or 2020 and they don’t cover it that doesn’t make sense you buy something new and you get a one-year warranty doesn’t matter if it was manufactured 5 years ago but that’s their excuse and the only way you can tell about the manufactured date as I believe an x in the serial number is code for 2020 year. But I am surprised Walmart purchasing Vizio My 2019 OLED had an update recently from Vizio that upgraded the home screen and everything else most of the time you turn the TV on and you have a big ad taking up the whole screen and you have to back out just to get to the home screen. I’m using my Fire TV Max second gen more than using their Vizio apps. As for Walmart I do order their groceries with Walmart Plus they gave me Paramount Plus for free just for paying them and I pay half price monthly for delivery FYI if you have Medicaid or other assistance they offer that so it’s worth it to me. And by the way I purchased that OLED a 65-in for $1,000 from them then got $200 more off with my b of a account and then they gave me another 5% cash back can’t beat that. The only problem with Walmart though is I must have ordered that TV five times they kept canceling it out and my bank couldn’t tell me why it was done or them finally it went through. If it was on Amazon for the same price I would have just ordered from them. Amazon has been good to me I’ve got a lot of free stuff from them including a free Vizio 5.1 soundbar in past because they told me it was new and it was refurbished. They don’t want other customers knowing that they sold somebody something like that My Google Pixel 3 was free from them also. FYI half price for Amazon prime membership for those same people who have Medicaid. Peace out
Not that I’m aware of
This is the thread I was thinking of. Miki posted this several weeks ago.
It’s just people talking about it if it were to happen. As of now there’s no indication of stopping us from side loading apps.
You are correct. Here is a quote from Miki, in that thread. But discussions like this always raise attention to the possibilities.
I just wish that there were not any “smart TVs”.
I’ve had to diddle around with Fire, Android, Roku and Samsung. Every one of them are clunky when you power them back on. I like having my TV open up to the input that I last used.
What my new Samsung does is auto switch to whatever input a device is powered up on. So as soon as my Shield Pro is turned on that turns on the soundbar as it’s plugged into the HDMI 1 there, then that immediately turns on my S95C TV and if I had the TV on say HDMI 2 the night before, it will automatically switch to input 1. I also have TiViMate set to auto start when the Shield Pro starts so about 2 seconds after the soundbar and TV fire up I’m on my TiViMate playlist and choosing what I want to watch.
Anything is possible . But until there proof I dismiss it .
