Do all/some/none of the VPN routers have a Fiber Optic input connection(like my home was does)?
Also, if the above question is no, can a VPN router be connected to an existing router?
Terry K
Most likely no optical connection. Yes you can connect to existing router.
Thanks"p".
So If I get a VPN router. I should be able to connect it to my router?
Would it go “Lan” out of my existing router to “Ethernet” in my VPN router?
My “situation” is, I bought a new onn box. And yes, I live in Canada, and yes, the onn will not work in Canada.
Get this. I bought it on Amazion.ca. Imagine that. Amazon,ca will sell you a device that does not work in Canada,eh!
Back to my FO connection.
I can’t be the only person with a router that uses a FO input connection.
You would think there would a VPN router out there with a FO input connection.
Terry K
Thanks for the schematic “Miki”.
Is the “TP” the source i.e fiber optic input.
If so , what is the “ONT”.
Is it sort of a FO to hard wire set up?
I see the “network” cable to the input of the router , I assume Ethernet input.
What is the other cable from the “ONT” and what is the device ?
Terry K
ONT = Optical Network Terminal
TP= Terminal point, where the Fibre optic cable comes into your place
The ONT changes the incoming signal into one the router can use, so out of the ONT is a standard ethernet cable that goes to your modem which supplies ports for ethernet, and a WiFi signal. The other “cable” is the power. I have my Nividia Pro connected to the router via Ethernet.
Thanks “Miki”.
Where can a fellow get one of these ONT’s?
Or, which one do you use?
Terry K
My ONT was supplied by my ISP. I haven’t looked to buy one. Amazon has a big selection of optical network terminals.
Just talking to Express VPN(who I use) support.
They say if I connect their VPN router to one of my LAN ports, on my existing router, and, “hard wire” one of their lan ports to the device I want to “protect”, it should work.
Does that make sense?
Has anyone set up an Aircove Express VPN router to an existing router using the existing router’s Lan to the EXP VPN router internet input?
What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to set up a LAN at home or for say a business?.
I am trying to set up a VPN router so I can get access to my ONN 4K device.
I am in no way an expert on routers but LAN is a local area network for say accessing other devices in your home. I would think the proper way to do this would be to connect your new modem/router to your ISP supplied modem router by using an Ethernet port which is essentially a WAN port and connect to your LAN port on the modem you purchased. If I have this a bit askew I hope someone who knows routers will pipe up to help.
Thanks “Miki”.
I think I have the process figured out.
I ordered a VPN router from Am.ca .
It is a Aircove VPN router by Express VPN, my VPN provider.
They have a setup video on YouTube.
I just would like to talk to anyone how has gone through setting one up.
Specifically an " Aircove".
Ok my friend. I know you’ll get it. You are tenacious. Please keep us updated. GL2U.
I am TENACIOUS, I just didn’t know how to spell it !!!
My Express VPN router comes Tues.
I will keep you/every body informed.
Terry11, I live in Canada (Toronto), and both my “old” ONN boxes and my ONN 4K Pro, all bought in Florida over the years, work perfectly fine, using both 2.4 and 5gHz wifi and with or without my VPN app installed on the ONN activated. Router is a Linksys EA9500 connected to my ISP’s (not fibre optical) gateway via ethernet. Perhaps it’s a FO issue, or maybe your ONN box is defective?
Thanks for that “addpro”.
I just got my ONN 4K(not Pro) from Am.ca Wed.
I believe, from what I saw on AFT news, that the latest update, wich instaslled it’s self, was the factor that set my ONN to the US only prob.
