VPN Privacy dot

I have used this one since it was brought out. Not once has it failed me. TBH my VPN has only gone down once in the years I’ve had it.

Thanks! Well there goes that idea. I really like Monitor Dot that Troy likes and it works GREAT on my Fire TV Cube. It does not work great on the ONN 4K Plus with the pop up and updating error.

You saved me from VPN PRIVACY DOT. Thank you.

Had a similar problem with Monitor Dot not being able to communicate to find out if it was up to date or not. I use Express VPN and once I set the Monitor Dot to not use VPN with split tunneling I never had the issue again.

I have Monitor Dot running (from their website through D/L) and set the BYPASS VPN as instructed on Surf Shark. It works fine NOW but the test will be when I start it up later if I still get the pop up screen & update error. Those are not deal killers, just pesky. They are worth the bother as I LOVE the dot besides that. Thank you.

I have an ONN Pro and also got that update pop-up maybe once a day where it takes you to the update page on the app, but otherwise it seemed to work fine. I installed it through TP Toolbox. I just took the advice from PapaS and bypassed the app in SS VPN settings. We’ll see if that stops the pop-up. Good luck, and if it works on the ONN for us, it should work for you.

If you bypass the dot in SS, will it still work properly and recognize if the VPN is off or on? That would be interesting, I would think the bypass makes SS invisible to the app, like Gem here in Canada.

I just experimented with SS. Turned SS off and the dot was still green. But then turned off Kill Switch and the Monitor Dot went to flashing red like it was supposed to. Turned SS back on and the dot went to green. This is with Monitor Dot bypassed in SS.

Edit: coincidently the “Update” box on SS home page lit up, so did the update process and while installing it turns off SS momentarily and yes the dot flashed red until the update was complete whence it went to green.

Yes there is a recent update for SS. I’m not sure why the dot was still green when you first turned off SS. Going back quite awhile, it used to be a controversy on the working of the dot. Staying green when SS was VPN was disabled. It was said well since the internet was cut off, the dot could not transition to red.

I remember that “controversy”. Wasn’t the consensus that since the kill switch killed the internet that the dot still blinking green simply meant that it was working as advertised? It would be red only if the internet was running with no VPN connected.

When I change servers or perform an update with SS, the dot goes red. And when everything is back up and functioning the dot returns to green. That seems to me that all is working as expected.

I do use the kill switch option, so I’m actually using the dot since I subconsciously enjoy the dot. Nutz, huh?

Not nutz at all. It’s like mother’s milk. Soothes the soul.

I just posted in the other thread my DOT update. Everything works fine on mine (thanks for the VPN bypass idea) except that on my ONN box, the homepage for the DOT opens each time and sits there when I power up the box. I use Projectivy and simply hit home twice to take me to the Projectivy (ONN) start screen. It’s better than the SurfShark update error but I still wonder why the DOT home page opens every time.

Mine dot update page has stopped doing that. Not completely sure what fixed that but make sure you have the latest versions of the Monitor Dot and the latest version of your VPN. In order to make sure I was up to date on the Monitor Dot, I erased it and downloaded a fresh install from the TP Toolbox (though I think I said that already).

What’s the latest version of Monitor Dot? I got my SurfShark updated yesterday. The Dot works perfectly on my Fire TV Cube. It’s only on the ONN 4K Plus that it’s being finicky. It works fine but it just opens its home page when I turn on the ONN so I hit HOME to get to the Projectivy landing page. Not a huge deal. I assume the DOT updates by itself, I don’t know how to manually update if it’s even possible.

Thank you for Monitor Dot!

Privacy dot stopped working on the Onn pro months and months ago. I removed it.

I’m assuming TP has the latest version in their Toolbox, so I erased the copy of MD on my Pro, and downloaded a fresh MD app from the Toolbox. The MD homepage hasn’t appeared automatically for a couple of days now.

Please try this work-around fix for the Monitor Dot homepage not showing in the app…

Depending on the version of Surfshark you have, one of these settings might help with this issue:

  1. Use the “Bypass VPN” setting and add the “Monitor Dot” app to the app list so that Monitor Dot can bypass the VPN and hopefully connect to our website successfully.

  2. Use the “Bypass List” setting to add our website “MonitorDot.com” to the “Bypass” list so hopefully the VPN won’t block Monitor Dot from connecting to our website anymore.

** Please let me know if this fix works for you.
