Just loaded NordVPN on my tv and computer. my network icon down in the bottom right of my computer screen shows NordLynx Internet access. Coming here to TroyPoint and opening one of the TP Lists I get the message that I’m being tracked and it shows the real IP address. What am I missing?
Which list are you opening?
Good question. Having a senior moment and don’t remember. Let me try another and see what happens. I was looking at Best Streaming Apps. I would assume it would have been the same with all of them.
I am just curious as I know full well Troy doesn’t track anyone, it may be different once you go to a site that is linked to and they track you.
This is part of the SurfShark add that is in the middle of his posts. It says I’m being tracked and I’m not protected. I didn’t mean to say that Troy was doing it himself. I was more concerned with having the VPN on but it having that info.
That IP that you see on the page is automatically grabbed by Troys site and displays your current IP and warns you to get Protected with a vpn.(sorta an advertisement). If you are using a vpn correctly the ip you see is your vpn ip. If you are not protected it should be showing your actual IP.
It is showing my actual IP so I must be doing something wrong.
go HERE and check.
that’s the real one.
If true, sounds as if something is not set up right
I’m at my second computer and it shows the Nord IP address now. So at least I know that is okay. I appreciate your time. Thanks to you both.
For info purposes, The IP/DNS has the protected address but then I checked the list again and it still has the real one.
Do you mean it has your real ip address provided by your ISP or your local/internal lan address?
Many times, the reason the IP Address doesn’t change on those pages is because of caching. If you open an Incognito window in your browser it should always show an accurate IP address. Or, empty your browser cache and it will show correctly as well.
Thanks all. That does make me feel more confident about what is going on. Have a great day.
Sometimes I don’t connect automatically. So that may be what’s causing your problem.
I have a dedicated VPN from Surfshark, Troys email lists that as my IP address not my real home address. I am guessing that you haven’t got it set up correctly.
It was a cache issue. All solved now thanks.
My understanding is that when you have your VPN on, you still have an ip address, but that address does not relate to your ISP. The Surfshark ad just proves that the ip address associated with your account with your ISP can be determined if you don’t have a VPN turned on. The bottom line here is that the ip address that Surfshark or any VPN service provider you use can see is your current ip address. This address can only relate to your ISP if you do not have a VPN turned on.
We don’t actually know that for a fact and that’s why brave browser is a great tool.
