Yup, pretty much what I get. I mean it’s enough to stream but there are other factors involved.
My box is literally within a foot of my router. Since I have a USB hub now, only two ports being used, I wonder if trying a usb to ethernet adapter would make a difference . Honestly , I doubt it. That being said, I have two computers connected to a Pod upstairs in my computer room via Ethernet, from there it’s wireless of course, They also have wifi and the Ethernet route is always faster even though they are 10 feet away.
Hey Wiz. Just out of curiosity try the Free Proton VPN and just use the auto setup and connect to the same location you presently use for your VPN and see what you get. Now the free Proton is heavily used and most servers run around %85 capacity which is far from ideal and the locations are fewer but it should give you a reasonable comparison.
I will absolutely do that. I need to make an account offline it seems. I have the app already.

I have an OTG cable, two ports used on the hub that goes into it. A storage stick and a dongle to use an external keyboard that can also run on bluetooth.

I signed up for a month with the Proton plus plan ($9.99). I checked all the protocol speeds and they ranged from 60Mbps download with WireGuard UDP to 20Mbps with Stealth. All the other ones were in the 40’s to 50’s. Without VPN download speed was 400Mbps. I tried to find different locations, but the only ones were United States and other countries. Couldn’t find how to choose a city. Any suggestions?
Settings>Country>click the three horizontzl dots>choose city>choose server with least percentage of users.
@Miki I am not able to go to Settings>Country>and click on the 3 horizontal bars. Cannot move to the left to access Settings. The only 4 choices are to the right are Split Tunneling, Protocol< Sign out, and Report an issue.
As soon as you open up paid Proton vpn on a streaming device, and scroll down every countries flag is displayed for you to choose one. And even devided into specific areas . Now oceania is at the bottom. So use your up directional ring on your remote. Click up one and Africa & Middle East is above oceana, Asia above that, then america. . You don’t need to access settings on a streaming device. The instructions I gave were for your phone or tablet. Sorry.
Ok, thank you. I’ll try those suggestions tomorrow. One other issue I have encountered is that while connected, there are some websites that I cannot access. One that I use often is Amazon. I have to disconnect to access Amazon.
That is the “Netshield” option. Unfortunately you can’t disconnect it on your Streamer, but I turn it off on my phone and tablet when I need to surf to those sites. I never use my streamer to surf the net.
Thanks to everyone who has responded to this topic, especially Miki. I am not sure how to proceed with a VPN. All the ones I have tried drastically reduce the wifi speed. Until something better comes along, I’ll stick with Surfshark, as I have paid for a year.
I concur with you. I am about to renew Surfshark today. It works well enough for me although not perfect, none of the others are as well. IpVanish is cheaper but not a lot.
With Proton VPN make sure you have turned on VPN accelerator. If you like I can send you screenshots using wireguard showing that I do not lose any speed with it active. I believe @TXRon can also verify he has the same experience.
I’M Thinking an all inclusive vpn setup guide is needed from Troy. It just seems to me this is one of the biggest obstacles for most users.
Welcome to Insider… Great bunch of guys & gals here. You’ll fit right in.
I have a ugreen 1 gig Ethernet hub. I connect it to my onn 4k pro thru the USB port and the onn 4k pro doesn’t recognize it and switches me to WiFi. Can’t figure it out
Connecting the ugreen device to ONN 4k or Firestick 4k through an OTG cable can be a tricky process at best. If the usb from the ugreen is inserted fully into the OTG, it doesn’t work. The usb plug from the ugreen has to be SLOWLY inserted into the OTG until you hit the “sweet spot” where the ugreen lights begin to flash. Get ready for a lot of trial and error. Once you find it, don’t touch it, move it, sneeze, or even look at it. Just my personal experience.
