UGREEN Ethernet Adapter Not Connecting to Onn 4K Pro

Speed Testers are not accurate, or i haven’t yet found one that is. The results vary by the app, the device and the vpn.

I have 2 devices next to each other running over 100mps w/o vpn. After i turn on the vpn, one device stays around 90mps and the other drops to 35ish mps.

Same vpn location just a huge difference in mps between devices.

I can switch to a different tester and get amazingly better or worse vpn speeds if i wanted.

As @TXRon says, if you arent getting buffering dont worry about the mps. But keep the vpn on.

I would like to pop in and briefly say that all VPNs are not created equal and it takes time and effort to get the best out of them that you can. From protocols to server locations it isn’t simply a matter of install, turn it on and away you go, not if you want to get the best out of this hobby that you can. Now that being said I will once again share my experience and opinion for your consideration and do with it what you will. I have paid Proton VPN and have never once lost speed using it no matter where I am or where I travel. Took me a couple of hours to learn how to effectively use it, but from Amazon, to Buzz, to Shield, to the Onn, I never lost speeds. I absolutely get my full ISP speed that I pay for. Try the free Proton VPN and although limited in servers you may just be surprised and to top it of it is about the only truly free VPN that is safe. Have fun and STREAM ON!!! A tad more expensive than some others but I willingly pay it, especially now I have a full suite of their products.

Thank you for the explanation of Proton VPN. If you don’t mind, could you elaborate on how to use it effectively?

I should download the free Proton and test it. My subscription is up for renewal the beginning of Sept so I can test this. I almost never get good bandwidth from SS nor did I with ipvanish. It was typically enough to stream but it’s 1 1/0th or less than what I have from my ISP. I want the wiggle room for those few streams that need it.

So I have to ask this. I mean I can still give proton a shot on one device as that is their free offer but the page says this and it’s contradictory.

Proton VPN Free vs. paid plans

Proton VPN offers the only free VPN that doesn’t limit your bandwidth, spy on you, show you privacy-invading ads, or sell your data.

Upgrade to a Proton VPN paid plan, and you’ll get faster browsing speeds, access to streaming services, advanced security features, and more.

If they don’t limit bandwidth then why would a paid plan give faster browsing speeds and mention access to streaming services? Implication is that you can’t stream with it and it is throttled. That makes no sense. Of course I need it on a number of devices so only a paid plan would work for me. They are almost twice the cost of SS and Ipvanish.

Hammer just get a 50 foot ethernet cable to connect to box, walmart has them

The free plan while unlimited also has fewer servers to choose from. The free servers back when I used them were good. The best reason imho for using proton is the bundle with all the services offered. Not cheap but very good.

Definitely not cheap. I will install one on one of my Onn’s and test out what the speeds are. I really only need the basic VPN as I don’t really need it for anything but streaming. ** Well I have used it once when I was somewhere that my cell service didn’t work but they had Wifi. No way I would get on a venues public wifi without my VPN on.

I got their full suite on a 2 yr plan for just over $6:50 cdn. More than likely the only reason that the paid plan would provide better speeds is because of so many using free plans and running the servers at max load.

True That.
I’ve ran three separate test. My carrier `Home Telephone, Analiti and Ookla and the results were vastly different.

I’ve a 500 mbps service and the test range from 28mbps to 50mbps with Vpn.
450-493 without.

That’s exactly what I get. Currently with SS but changed from Ipvanish two years ago. My subscription is up next week. Deciding.

I moved to SS after a brief trial period, because the Shark actually saved me a lot of download and upload speeds…

I was only getting around 14-25 Mbps from my 500Mbps Home service with IpVanish. It was a huge drain on my service. That was and is the only thing I can say negatively about IpVanish, it’s a great system, but also a great drain.

Overall for myself, it’s worked great for me and I use the system heavily.
One note. When Troy first suggested the Shark, I tried and hated it. Then 2 years later decided to give them another try and it’s been a positive experience.

I have that UGreen adapter, and setup, and the solution is this…plug-in the USB end of the UGreen adapter into your Onn 4K,and plug in your ethernet cable into the ethernet part of the UGreen…that should do it.Hope this helps!

I use the UGREEN ethernet adapter on my tablet, the difference is I have a 10 way Ethernet hub, but you can just use an Ethernet splitter box.

I am presuming your TV uses Ethernet or you want it to, as well as Your ONN.

Plug a lead from the ONN to the splitter box, plug the splitter box into your TV and plug an Ethernet cable from your Router to the splitter. Job done.

You can pick up 3 way ethernet splitter of Amazon fairly cheaply.

RJ45 so yes

The problem with a lot of VPN’s is they run at Half your bandwidth speed. This comes about by the settings you use to make it more secure.
So your 500Mbs turns into250Mbps at most, however that speed is still fast enough so not a problem

Just checked my wifi speed this morning. 400Mps download w/o VPN. 40Mps download with SS VPN. Seems like too big a difference.

Just to add some more info. Tested my speed this morning with a VPN on and it’s 147 on a 150 service, without VPN on it’s 148. VPN is Proton on the new “Stealth” protocol.

That’s incredible. I’m lucky to get 47 on a 500 service.
