Ugoos AM8 or My next boxšŸ¤—

Is Zidoo Z9X Pro a better alternative to Ugoos AM8 as I have read on other sites that it is the best for picture quality and sound?

The am8 is a newer chip than most/any other box. The Zidoo boxes are more of a ā€œmedia centerā€. Kinda hard to explain but Zidoo is a great product for what it does but I would never say its a better streamer than any other box but does offer more functionality. Lets just say its one of androids better versions of a nas server setup. However compared to say an x86 server theres no real competion as a zidoo is more on the ā€œlessā€ powerful options. Zidoo resides where there is little competition for what it does. Ive had 2 zidoos over the years and never could could convince myself to justify the cost and sent them back.

Semi off topic, but I’m passing the audio to a AV receiver through a hdmi cable. Is there a setting in my device (KM1 Deluxe) that should be applied. Something like ā€œaudio passthroughā€ or something? Dolby? The speakers are working, but I don’t know if it’s optimal.

And shouldn’t it be ā€œputtingthreeā€ on a par five lol?

In the settings for my device, there is no option to pass through audio. However, both Kodi and Tivimate provide the audio passthrough option within their respective app settings. Not sure what apps you use, but check out their audio settings.

When I hit my tee shot out of bounds, I’m ā€œhitting threeā€ on the next one. Happens more frequently than I’d like.

A nube question, but is audio pass-through what you want so it’s routed straight to the receiver? Also use TiviMate and Film+ is my movie app of choice.

We usually give each other a ā€œpassā€ if the OB shot isn’t on someone’s lawn and is within a meter of the inbounds lol

basically you want it on to pass through to the tv or sound system.

Wow. So I turned AFR on and audio pass-through on in TiviMate and now the video looks great but the audio is out of synch. I’ll try a restart and see what happens.

Nope, the audio synch with video is way off – maybe 5 seconds on NFL channel. What gives?

You could try connecting your HDMI cable from your streaming device to your TV HDMI in, then run another HDMI cable from the TV HDMI eARC port to your receiver. That’s what I had to do to be able to display 4K on my TV, because my receiver is 10 years old and is limited to 1080p max over HDMI. Audio and video sync well with this arrangement. I had to select audio passthrough in my TV sound settings for this to work.

What I had read was that Realtek chip is better than Amlogic for 4k upscaling. Secondly, Z9X Pro outputs better picture quality than AM8. Also, Z9X is faster due to DDR4 compared to LPDDR4 in AM8. So, if you have used Z9X Pro, are these things true?

I have a Zidoo media player and it is like apples to oranges in comparing a media player to a streaming device. A media player is not designed at all for streaming, only playing back digital copies of your physical media, (dvds, Blu-ray’s, etc.) A media player requires a substantial investment, including a dedicated storage hard drive disk of at least 4 gigabytes to store your library and a pc dvd/blu-ray burner program with a compatible, formatted disc drive to convert your collection to media digital files. I really like the convenience and performance of a media player but it is not for everyone.

Will Kodi, Stremio and iptv work on Zidoo?

Howdy TXRon. I agree with you completely regarding the Zidoo media players. I got the Z1000 Pro and absolutely love the convenience and quality of having my physical media on one device but it’s not for everyone. The price of the player, along with a formatted disk drive, a dvd burner program and hard drive for file storage would give a lot of folks pause, not to mention the time and effort required to convert your physical disk library to digital.

I don’t think so. The only way I could even stream on mine was to do a total pass through using an hdmi cable from my Ugoos streaming box. The image from the connection on the Zidoo was like a small Picture in Picture so there is really no point in doing that. If you just want to stream, forget the Zidoo.

LPDDR is more effient for mobile devices(32b) vs DDR(64b) and runs cooler, better overall for these type devices.

That’s a great idea if my tv has that output. I helped a buddy move his mom into assisted living and inherited her 65" VIZEO 120 hz tv, but it’s only HD and is at least 10 years old. Which is fine because I mostly watch live iptv which is max HD. [of course the wife gets the new Samsung 4k] But it also has an optical, not an HDMI out (I think). I’ll have to double check that. I didn’t have an optical digital out cable so just run the local over the air antennae channels through the tv speakers. Good idea though…I’ll dig back there and see what OUT options I have.

This is a super interesting thread for a bunch of stuff. Conclusion to my quandary: hdmi directly into tv, and ARC out to Yamaha receiver did nothing…couldn’t get any sound. Found a digital optical cable to go OUT from older tv to receiver and ran hdmi from my box to the receiver. Good… as least I can run the audio from the local antenna channels through the receiver and get nice sound. At my audio synch problems seemed to have disappeared while the Auto Frame Rate ON seems to have improved the picture from my box. So I’m happy on this end.

It gets easier the more boxes you mess with.( or Miki might say it gets stranger)
