Trying to add “mute” to a double or triple tap to of of my nVidia Shield 209 Pro remote buttons - but I can find the “mute” action. Anyone know where it is?
Button Mapper has been used by me and others to reprogram buttons on the Nvidia Shield. I personally changed the Netflix button to Mute. Changed my.life. lol
Here is a thread with a link at the botton. As far as I know it should still work.
Search around other threads here about Button Mapper too.
This is a standard option available in the Shield pro.
Settings>Remotes & accessories>Customize Menu button>now in here you have 3 button push options #1 Short Press #2 Hold #3 Double Press. Now under those 3 options you have a long list that you can choose what you want the Menu button to do. So I clicked on Double Press to open that list and then clicked on “Mute volume”. There ya go done. Now every time I double click the menu button it mutes my volume, then double click again to turn the volume back on.
That is how I set mine up too Miki. Two click the menu button mutes my receiver. Although button mapper and TV QA Pro give you more options, I just need an easy way to mute. This works for me.
I have never used button mapper , but I don’t really need any more options than the Shield Pro settings provide. Once you dig into the settings you can find a ton of button clicks that do special things. You can display background running apps, close all background apps, bring up “apps”(similar to Sideload Launcher), Clear cache and that along with adding “Mute” to the settings dbl click, is about all I need.
Its been so long i forgot you can have the menu button be used as mute or other options. But you need something like Button Mapper to override the Netflix button or others.
That was my main pet peeves with the remote. The annoying Netflix button and no dedicated mute button.
I never had any issues with the Netflix button but you are absolutely correct. If you want or need more options than the Shield Pro provides natively then Button mapper would be the way to go. But with 3 button press options and then 19 sub options for each type of button press I found that was all I needed. Also with more options already coded into things like the “Home” button I didn’t need an extra program to do things like close background apps or clear caches. I think these top line devices need to consider some native coding to change button operations from within the device settings. That would be very helpful.
Yes it would be nice if they let us control the control…lol But I am sure Netflix paid to have that dedicated button.
I found the Menu button too far away from my fingers for quick access. The Netflix button is perfectly located for me to Mute. But to each their own.
And i couldn’t tell you how many times i accidentally hit the Netflix button and left what i was watching. Even just to disable the Netflix button is worth using Button Mapper for me.
Lol. I have seen a huge group of ppl complaining about the accidental Netflix button press. So you certainly are in good company. I use my thumb for all button presses on the remote and cradle the remote between my fingers and palm. Love the triangular shape for that very reason. I bet Netflix paid/pays a lot for special buttons on a remote.
