Ok so the old Miki has hit a wall. I pride myself on being able to figure out most configuration settings but this one has me stumped. I have about 120 "Favourites " channels. Now I want to devide those up into sub categories such as "News, Sports, and entertainment " for example. Now I know I can long press on any channel, then on the right I can click “create group” and successfully do that. But now I get stuck. How do you move other channels from favourites into say the newly created “News” group. I look forward to your help.
Have fun and STREAM ON.
Not positive but I think if you choose copy channels on the settings menu (while in favorites section) and then follow screen prompts you can then do what you’re trying to do. Good luck ![]()
I thought about that. Hmmm. So copy it, put it in “News” then delete it out of faves. Tx PapaS. Will try now.
Ooooo PopaS you’re a genius. So I long press on a channel>copy channels>select channels I want in that category>press right side of direction ring for copy/move>Select the group I want those channels in> now delete channels from Favourites. I owe you a cerveza amigo. Works perfectly.
I think you can delete it or keep it if you want.
The default “Favorites” folder seems to be very limited in what you can do with it. I would make new folders and use them as sub menus, that way you can copy and paste each group from that Favorites to each correct menu. I’m not in front of any devices at the moment, can help walk through it once I am though if you can’t get it figured out.
Thanks for the clarity
that’s what I was trying to say and all the credit has to go to @AMD237 because I got this info off another thread here somewhere and I know it was from you. THANKS ![]()
I see you added the solution @Miki, were you able to successfully copy the channels in bulk over to each necessary folder?
You bet. Instead of “copy” I used “move”. Still had to individually delete them from faves though.
When I realized how limited that darn Favorites folder is, I stopped adding channels to it. I would just default to making my own folders, even if it is called “Favorites”, so that it is much more customizable and functional.
Well the thing is, most people only have about 30 faves, but with all the testing and searching we do, most “power” users start getting upwards of 150 channels, and being able to place those in “Categorized” folders is very helpful.
And with multiple services, you start to get many instances of the same channel, so it definitely adds up.
Absolutely. I have 4 services but really focus on the 2 best performing ones and then keep the same channel from both in the specific group folder for that category. Sure tidied up my Favourites folder. Tx for your assistance.
Using the “move” option is fine if relocating from the favourites folder. Just be aware that if you use the “move” function from your main EPG, it removes that channel from your TV Guide. May be fine, but frustrating if that’s not your intention and you’re later left wondering where the channels have gone if you later want to create other groups and go looking to the “master” EPG and find they are “missing”
Dang miss my chance to be the man!!! LOL
I had a hard with this for avwhile because because I would make the channel invisible and then the channel would be invisible in favorites and even an all channels. I finally figured out that I just had to delete it out of favorites.
Two options copy or move. Move will put it in new group and remove it from current group. Copy just duplicates channel in new group.
unfortunately KingPro, I’m cursed with a rather unique skill. Or some might say blessed. I can move a channel from one location to another and then remember exactly where I moved it to. With my 4 subs I never want a channel to appear in several “groups”. I have created news, sports and still have Favourites for my entertainment channels. So when moved from the “parent” playlist to a group of my choice it won’t be moved anywhere else. But certainly will be a good thing for others. Thank you.
Now one thing I did notice TX is that when moving channels out of “favourites”, where I placed them, by long pressing on it and then choosing “add to favourites” and then using “move” from “copy/move” to put them into my created “group” that the channel did not disappear from favourites but was also in the “group” that I chose, thus giving me duplicates. I then had to individually choose each channel and “delete” it from my Favourites list to remove the duplicate.
Could be. With my ever evolving channel subs I now do not select favs because they come and go so often. Ive choosen to create groups like…“Sports” and I keep that group populated with my channel choices no matter where they come from. Favs became a distraction over time and by just managing fav groups I illiminated that hassel. So now when I delete a sub the channels from that sub will also disappear I then will with a new sub add the channels back.
Exactly TXRon. That’s what I was trying to do before but couldn’t figure it out. PapaS gave me the instruction I was missing and now I can do likewise and load specific “theme” channels in my chosen group. Much more efficient as you say. Learned something today, so it’s a good day.
