The forgotten Android TV streaming device that was ahead of its time
It was right on time for me
still running like a champ.
I was curious to see if TP insiders had issue with the word “forgotten”![]()
The Shield WAS ahead of its time. Not anymore. There are much better quality android boxes now with better specs and performance. Nvidia seems to have given up on keeping up with some of the other premium brands.
And yet they still update them
But yea they are more focused on AI these days. Maybe they will release an AI powered Shield lol
I’m stuck using HI but it works. Well for most it does. Oh sorry I should explain. HI is an old and ancient method. HI stands for Humanoid Intelligence. A rare thing that fortunately I have in spades. Ooops, did I say that out loud? Damn coffee.
The Shield makes up such a small amount of Nvidea’s revenue. I’ll bet the Exec’s have never even heard of it. Whoever is left on the “Shield Team” at Nividea is probably in the basement with their staplers like in Office Space ![]()
Probably go into work one day a month to keep their desks from showing dust. Best gig at Nvidia. No one has any idea what they do or are supposed to do.
hmmmm, i wonder if they are hiring….i’m always up for some easy money

Dang @Miki , me thinks you stayed on that diet too long….![]()

Well, the marketing was the problem. Is it a game box? Is it a server? Is it a streaming box? Yes, I know, all of the above. But people weren’t as “with the program” back then as they are today.
Yup, got this one when my several old school boxes died when Kodi first came out
Still working!!
I know the Shield is a tiny bit of Nvidia’s profits, but it would bet easy money.(money is money after all) if they produced a new Shield 2.0. When they introduced the first Shield streaming was not very big, just look at the amount of new customer they could hook now.
Especially if they do look at what’s needed, like a top line CPU/GPU or SoC, widevine 2. Usb 3, WiFi 6 or 7, 8+GBs RAM and 256 ROM. Just for a start. Make it in North America and release it here first. Damn that’d be sweet.
Call me a fuddy-dud but i still love my Shield Pro. It’s still my number 1. It’s time tested, for me, and does everything I expect of it. But what do I know…I’m just an old Kodi streamer. No recording, no games, so I’m boring and I don’t care. ![]()
Nothing wrong with a shield pro. My go to for years.
Had mine for years never had to do a thing to it, it just keeps cranking when all the others mess up and has to be refreshed
Still the best streaming box out there. Worth every penny. There is NO comparison to the other boxes. You have to try it to believe it.
I loved my 2019 Pro but sold it and went with the BuzzTV P6L Ultimate.
