Lol. Sorry @PapaS it is rather techy. In my opinion, and from what little I know, you are Safer and more anonymous using the TDUKs app and choosing encrypted DNS. It has no interference with your VPN and will not negatively affect it’s operation.
Here is an example, you have your DNS pointer set to the ISP provided server. When you resolve a URL (a web address) to an IP address your ISP has a record of where you are connecting.
(The truth is they may or may not care)
With encrypted DNS you are first no longer using your ISPs DNS server and additionally all data is encrypted to and from the DNS server.
With a VPN and your ISPs DNS servers they now know you connected to a VPN. With a VPN and encrypted DNS your ISP never sees the request and it is encrypted to and from the DNS server you select in the app.
That is accomplished in part by the key pair that was generated when you first started the TDUK DNS switcher. The keys are used to do an initial hand shake and establish encryption.
The VPN encrypts traffic from your device to the VPN server and decrypts data that is returned by the VPN server.
As I have pointed out before the traffic from the VPN server to the destination is not encrypted but your IP address is replaced by the IP address of the VPN server. That’s why your IP address is “hidden” and how a VPN gets around geo restriction when you select a VPN server in a different country.
I hope that helps.
That is a great explanation @Timwort . Well worded, simple and helpful. Tx so much for this.
What Addon(s) are you using? I’ve been using Umbrella for months and The Crew for years and have never experienced what you are talking about above. These issues have to be on your end. Also FWIW I don’t think your ISP is throttling you or cares about what you watch. Been using KODI since 2016 without a VPN without any issues
Can’t say for sure, it’s possible it was an issue with Kodi but I don’t think it was. Hasn’t happened lately but definitely did happen: US Court Says All ISPs Must Block Access to Various Pirate Sites
This was a test. If successful then most likely will see this tactic increased.
The government wants total control of every aspect of information disbursement.
LOL please don’t believe this clickbait.
It’s from Troy.
Yes I know. If you Google the net you often times see the exact same articles from other sources. Not all the content he posts is original. This is very common.
Well, if nothing else it has been posted that it helps with some buffering issue. Also, it seems to alleviate the blocking of a few channels when using The App
Besides, for a lousy $2 bucks it worth a shot. imho
I am one who appreciates added security and anonymity so $2 for lifetime is an ok deal IMHO.
I am missing “something” but that is “nothing” new.
The DNS is encrypted.
just a FYI - this test is total BS
I am using full DNS over HTTPS encryption with ADguard servers (that IP you see in the screenshot, belongs to adguard)
But the page is still saying “DNS requests exposed”
Basically just scaring people to buy their VPN
For $2 it’s kinda a no brainer. Another easy applied layer of security and something less I have to learn. $2 for life and unlimited devices.
Encrypted DNS.
This DNS Switcher will force your device to use an encrypted DNS server.
The benefits of encrypted DNS are:
Enhanced Privacy
- Protection against eavesdropping: DoT encrypts DNS queries and responses, preventing third parties from intercepting and analyzing your browsing history.
- Reduced tracking: By obscuring your DNS queries, DoT can make it more difficult for advertisers and other entities to track your online activities.
Increased Security
- Protection against man-in-the-middle attacks: DoT ensures that your DNS queries and responses are not tampered with by malicious actors who might redirect you to harmful websites.
- Reduced risk of censorship: DoT can help protect against government censorship or internet service provider (ISP) interference with your DNS traffic.
Additional Benefits
- Compatibility with existing infrastructure: DoT is compatible with existing DNS infrastructure, making it easy to implement.
- Improved performance: In some cases, DoT can improve DNS query performance by reducing the overhead of unencrypted traffic.
You can also select an AD-blocking DNS server like Adugard - this will give you the added benefit of blocking adverts in streaming apps (Cinema HD / BeeTV / Rumble etc) and well as websites.
If the above does not match your use case then this app is definitely not for you.
Happy Anniversary @Powerfader
For me personally, I’m on the Rumble app alot and to get the ad-free sub for Rumble is 134 dollars plus tax in Canada for 1 year so I’m loving this.
But, it doesn’t work on a fire stick!
Certain boxes i’m finding its not working. The new google streamer will not allow network debugging(at least not without more digging) and my chromecast is blocking it. Its not made for fire products at all. Give him timeto address these other boxes. Its hard work.
