I just subscribed to Surfshark and installed it on my Fire Stick 4K Max.
I’ve been using IP Vanish now for several years. I have Amazon Prime split tunneled so I can access it when IP Vanish is connected. I have Prime Video (com.amazon.avod) and Fire TV Player (com.amazon.firebat) selected for split tunneling and it works just fine.
With Surfshark I set the Bypasser with the same two apps selected (Prime Video/Fire TV Player) and Amazon is blocking access. Is there something else I need to do so I can use Amazon Prime while Surfshark is connected to a VPN server?
Hello @jmanguray I just tested this myself. Split tunneling is working properly for me by checking the same apps that you are checking. Here are my settings. Make sure you are using the Bypass VPN setting and not Route via VPN. If your settings are the same as mine, try rebooting your device and try again. Working fine on my Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
Troy,
I just got off chat with Surfshark support. What worked was changing the protocol from Automatic to OpenVPN/UDF. The Automatic protocol setting was set to WireGuard and apparently my Fire Stick and Amazon don’t work with this setting. I’m able to play Amazon Prime now with the Bypasser ON and Fire TV Player/Prime Video apps selected for bypassing the VPN.
Way to go. But if that’s what the tech told you I think it’s slightly misleading. Wireguard does work with AmazonTV OS and in conjunction with bypasser and Override GPS Location, should have worked. I think you’ll find it’s because wireguard is easily recognized by sites and sites know that a vast majority of the time it’s being used by a VPN and they won’t let your traffic in. UDP works because in SS obfuscation is automatic when UDP is selected. Either way they got you going and that’s a good thing. I also noticed a quick response time when you submit a question. Also a good thing.
Glad you got it fixed. I would still try restarting your device and switching back to Wireguard as this is the protocol that I’m using on mine and it works fine with split tunneling. I only say this because you will probably get faster speeds with Wireguard.
wireguard is a conditional protocol. I have a few devices that do not like it and a few that do. One device works with wireguard but slows down. I say go with openvpn as its more established at this point.
That may be the problem. I am on 2.8.1.7 as this is their latest release that I installed today through TROYPOINT Rapid App Installer. Amazon is very slow to approve updates to apps and more than likely their update has been sitting in the que for a month or more. You could also try uninstalling your app and reinstall through Rapid App Installer.
Thanks for the update on the update…couldn’t find it anywhere else but on your RAI…looks like it was maybe put out today…? Had to uninstall & reload to get it…
2.8.0.6 is mine as well. Just found out I can’t connect to amazon.com unless I go through the Canadian servers. Just spent 3 hrs with tech help. They have no idea why. We tested everything including using their DNS servers. I also cannot connect to cbs.com in Silk browser and now an entirely new issue. SS would not let my “home” load and I could not get to the Amazon app store nor could I even do a search. Had to disable SS and then I could access it.
Just uninstalled all my SS apps that were 2.8.0.6 (no updates anywhere I looked) & reinstalled the 2.8.1.7 versions thru the RAI. Couldn’t connect to Amazon.com using my JioPages browser…don’t have Prime installed to check that out…otherwise, everything else not Amazon seems to be working ok for moi’.
OK…cool…as for me, I don’t need to connect to them or Prime Video…as I watch all of the Amazon shows via Stremio…so I’m good to go. Glad you found a way tho…if I see anything different in this latest version of SS I’ll give you a heads up.
