I think this would be a useful addition to your product reviews. I ordered some inexpensive Topelo i96 boxes from china and they can be fully remoted not just file transfer. I usually test with TeamViewer Quick connect. Don’t install the addon that pops up with. Messes up remote capability. I have recently tested several other commercial remote apps but always go back to TeamViewer. (AirDroid, SplashTop, Anydesk, Webkey, Rustdesk).
I’m having trouble understanding why having remote access to streaming boxes through an expensive software is that beneficial for most of our users? Maybe I am just ignorant, but could you explain all of the advantages to doing this on boxes or sticks that may just have a few apps?
I use it to transfer apk’s when setting up new units. Support customer when having trouble. I can remote in from home without having to be there to help with any issues there are having. EPG not working. Login not working for iptv. Maybe not so useful for alot of users of form.
Gotcha! Makes sense for your situation for sure when trying to troubleshoot for customers. May not be needed for most casual users, but definitely another way to get things done. I just never really thought about remoting into a streaming box, just PCs. Cool idea.
Yes I find it extremely helpful. Firesticks are the worst as Amazon has them so locked down yet I hear if you call Amazon for support they can fully remote your stick? I can transfer files and remove apks remotely on firesticks but not fully control. That why its nice to find android boxes that can be fully remoted.
Im still testing but usually devices that you can also gain root access are better candidates. Can’t really give a number yet. Im testing Mecool, Topleo, Mi Xiaomi, BuzzTV. So far Topleo & Buzz can be fully remoted.
Using remote access on boxes is going to vary box to box. It’s not like windows remote access with team view. This is why we have guides and support to help people setup their own boxes. We probably wont be doing this or looking into this as we have plenty of guides to get all walks of life to get their apps on their devices.
If your helping someone setup id suggest guiding them to here or turn on install from unknown sources. Charging your customers to do something super easy is kinda distasteful and i dont like it personally. I’d help them in anyway i can but remote access is to far.
That’s fair, sorry for me to assume like i did. my apologies. If remote access is becoming a pain, honestly try to get them to use the toolbox or downloader app, it really helps to get most things on their box. Most china boxes have mobile OS on them.
Yes im using a cloud storage to store apks and then using ATVnews url shortner. I can direct them to downloader and send one or many apks zipped for them to install. Another very helpful tool. It wasn’t easy finding a cloud storage service that would work with there generated share links. I also create store in Unlinked for customers to obtain apks.
I don’t know if Troy will ever add or focus on this within his reviews just because it really only is handy for a select few around the Insider. Most of us just have our boxes within our house/network and use Troy to tinker and explore. Regardless, it was worth the shot of asking, and sounds like you have a cool way of troubleshooting for your customers. I get calls from my Mom all the time when she is babysitting my Son that she hit a wrong button or something happened to the TV. Would be sweet if I could just remote in and fix it for her without having to run home lol.
Perfect. I’ve done remote access all over the world, but a very long time ago using Win XP. I know it can be done for the Firesticks, but honestly I’m retired and can’t be bothered with the constant customer support. To many ridiculous issues that a little research could resolve. So I just use txt contact and send them the necessary links to review, like troypoint.com
