Stremio vs Kodi: Which Streaming App is Better in 2026?

I honestly no longer understand the whole Stremio vs Kodi thing.

If only streaming is your concern and a somewhat easier UI is an issue, Stremio is probably a better option in most cases.

I use Kodi because streaming isn’t my only thing, although Kodi is superior in a couple of aspects for streaming. Even my wife has learned to use the UI after I learned a lot from Jayhawk’s tutorial on how to modify the opening to show POV, Umbrella and Force Close.

So true; I’ve always been a contrarian.

You’re right. Streamio does suck. Stremio on the other hand is da bomb. One configuration and you’re done across multiple devices. Long lasting and simple. Interface doesn’t matter as I always go to my library or “Discover” and don’t sit there staring at the Stremio home screen. Only time I had to reinstall Stremio over many years of use, was because of an Android 14 update. Choices are great. Something for everyone.

Long time Kodi user… moved to torrents, Plex and an IPTV solution some years back. Just became too cumbersome.

That could have improved… haven’t used it for a few years. Stremio, Plex and IPTV solution are my current solution.

Next to FTA, this has been my favorite setup. Just keep getting easier to use and set up.

I use both Kodi and Stremio. Stremio’s interface is a lot easier to use as well as setting it up.There’s definitely a learning curve for Kodi, I too have learned some tips from Jayhawk’s video on Kodi.It has helped me learn more about all the different settings and stuff you can do with Kodi.

Kodi for 2 very important reasons: live sports, and sports replays. The Loop, Titan are incredible. The Crew no longer works for me, especially trying to watch the NFL.

Install the Daddylive 2 KODI Addon. Flawless clean picture for NFL games with zero buffering. I don’t use as I watch live Sports on my IPTV services but installed for a few friends.

Kodi works for me.

Yeah, no. Had Kodi for 11 years. Started using Stremio a couple of weeks ago. But the movies I watch are Nordic, independent movies and I never find any sources on Stremio. Good luck with any old movie, really. Stremio might be good for new releases and maybe five years back but that’s about it. Kodi’s level of customization is insane. If something breaks, it’s is usually a very simple fix. Stremio messed me up even after fully uninstalling and all. I will likely not get on board with Stremio anytime soon. Maybe when it will be robust enough and more versatile.

Stremio has been out for about 12 to 14 yrs. Rarely ever had to add more add-ons. With just a few I get everything I want. Gave up on Kodi with all the various devs shutting down or giving up on their addons. Spend countless hours learning your way around only to have it disappear. Gone back to it every couple of years, or so, to see if things improve. They never do. So I’m glad to have an app that simply works year after year the way I want it. But the one poster is correct, I can’t stand watching Old movies, and if I did, I would get a specific app for that or simply use an addon tto extend searches to older stuff.
We are lucky to have 2 amazing apps that cover about every streamers needs. Kodi or Stremio what’s it matter? Both are great.

I’ve been with Kodi for years and have been with Stremio for about 2 years. I also have about 4 other streaming services from Troypoint’s recommendation that I switched back and forth with. Stremio is easy to set up and when I tell others about cord cutting, I recommend Stremio cuz Kodi is too hard to explain. However at the end of the day, I’m a Kodi guy. When the other streaming services don’t have what I’m looking for (movies/series) or not populating, usually one of my add-ons in Kodi has it.

I install Kodi on others ONN devices along with the better operating separate apk’s such as Flixvision, HDO Box, Bee TV, Onstream plus various sports apps & OTT TV using TV pass playlist fpr live TV along with Redbox TV.
But these are new cordcutters eliminating Cable/Satelite going cheap as possible.

I personally far prefer Stremio & have used it well over a decade. I never use Kodi.

On Troy’s recommendation I installed Streamio. However, when I attempted to watch Landman (as an example) it would not load. The screen showed subscription service. I’m missing something??

Thanks Solo, I neglected to mention Daddy, which i also use. I typically have 5-6 live NFL games to choose from, but i have used Daddy for live games. I use Loop & Titan for NFL replays. These games are commercial free and usually run 2 hours, 2 hrs 15 mins. Sometimes they do not work. Do you know of any other addons for nfl replays. Thanks for your help, bob.

No I love Sports and watch it a ton but I don’t ever watch replays. Gotta be live for me.

I’m with @SoloWarrior if it ain’t live sports it’s old sports, and I’m not into history.

I’ve been using Kodi for over ten years. Early days were rough! Addons craping out. Buffering at times to the point of not being usable, especially when you have friends over to watch. But there wasn’t much choice. Other apps came and went, just like Kodi addons. But there was a network of support that made it possible and even enjoyable. I eventually found my way here to Troypoint and things got a whole lot easier. I should mention that I’m a tech person and enjoy the challenge of getting these things working even if frustrating at times.

I’m currently using Kodi with Umbrella, the Crew, and Seren addons with Premiumise and Trakit. I like to watch movies (not always the most popular) and binge TV series. My setup works flawlessly.

All that said, this is also a bit of a hobby (obsession) and I’m always curious about what’s new. After reading much about Stremio here I decided to try it out. Have to say it works well for me. It is less complicated to set up even though it’s not clear what addons you need and what they do. Would be nice to see detailed reviews on them like we have for Kodi addons. I have to say that I’m amazed that it’s available on IOS. How Apple lets me watch Apple TV content for free on my phone is hilarious.

Kodi is still my personal go to. But I installed Stremio on my wife’s phone for her. That says something.

I thought the tutorial was biased against Kodi the video showed just the basic install and floated across the installing addons which you need to do on both ,so the 3/5 mins goes out of the window and then there is debrid if you use it .I have used Kodi for many years and when I tried stremio I was disappointed but that was a couple of years ago so I will install today and be back .

Streamio is NOT Stremio… I don’t have any issues watching movies or series using Stremio.

Troy has a comprehensive video installation guide for Stremio😉

I had Kodi when I first started the cord cutting process many years ago. It took some patience and choices were few (Terrarium was a good alternative back then) but since Stremio showed up, that’s been the only choice for me. With Real-debrid and Torbox there isn’t much you can’t find to satisfy your streaming needs.
