Data Caps Are Likely Coming to Spectrum Customers Soon | Cord Cutters News
Of course. Glad there are local options available
Unfortunately, they are my best option. I have been waiting for Fiber to come to my area but isnt quite here yet. I highly doubt the caps would affect casual streamers, though. More like people that download 4k movies, I would think. Still, taking more stuff away from us for money. Ugh.
It’s an available here but I’ve been waiting to hear from more people about it and if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Lol
I will start looking for alternatives, but I am new to this area and Spectrum. So, not certain what is available for my area.
The cable/internet companies have to make up for all the cord cutting loses somehow. So, raising internet prices and adding data caps are how they are doing it. While it definitely sucks, I am not surprised by the move.
Spectrum absolutely SUCKS! I dealt with their BS pricing for years and when I cut the cord a few years back Still had to deal with them for internet. I was paying a boatload for Awful 100 MB service. Finally about a year and a half ago AT&T Fiber came in to my area. Paying less for better speeds and performance. Spectrum can Kiss my A$$
Yup, we have Google fiber here but no OTA TV reception, so Spectrum has been our only TV option. Ever heard of “GREAT RATES”? *
(*when bundled)
I pay $100 a month now for 500 Mbps service. Been a very reliable service, but feel like Fiber wouldn’t be more expensive from other companies, or it wouldn’t be that much more when it comes to my area. I used to have Spectrum Cable TV before my Troypoint days, so I’m sure they love charging me full price for this now that I don’t bundle.
I pay $55/month with AT&T Fiber for 300 Mbps but my speeds are consistently 395-400 Mbps. Fiber has just been so much better and faster than my cable service ever was with Spectrum
Check and see if tmobile is in your area and offering their 5g internet. Its a good deal (so far) if it works for you. Ive heard good and bad about it but I think performance depends on location. I believe @itzme has it and likes it(could be wrong on user).
Our local fiber is 1GB for same price as 400mb through Spectrum with a lifetime price lock
I have Spectrum Business @ 600mbps down with 40mbps up. I pay $89.99 a month but had to get bundled with a cell phone (I don’t need) for another $14.00 a month. Although my price is ok for now, I still despise Spectrum with a passion. Canning Spectrum’s collective butts will be awesome, and I welcome their demise! CAP THAT Spectrum! I cant wait till the Fall when my 2gbps Fiber is installed. Ive already signed up, and am in the process of updating my network and hardware to 10 gig capable! Rock on Fellow Streamers!
We just changed to T-mobile. We had Nextlink for wifi which required us to build a tower ($2K) and pay $70/mos for 60 Mbps. That speed hat often dropped to 30 mbps and glitched often enough at night to corrupt my daily recording on TiViMate.
T-mobile had a great sale so we switched from AT&T mobile service, rec’d 2 new iPhone 14s, they paid off my contract with Nextlink ($400) and was given a gateway which provides us speeds of 100 mbps for $30/mos. I had never heard of a gateway. The service has been fantastic (had it now 2 weeks). We are in the country so have limited option. And as @TXRon points out, we now have 5g.
We also don’t lose service when it rains like we did with Nextlink. I will say our first gateway went bad after 1 week. They replaced it with a newer model and were aware that their first model crapped out on people.
When they do I will terminate them, cellphone and all. I will go for way less than their price. Fiber here was just installed last fall . I guess I should have already switched…
@TXRon yessirrr…i love my t mobile…maybe i’m just lucky in my location, but MOST of the time i get 90-100 down, 30-50 up…and thaz with only 3 outta 5 bars on their display…
Don’t have Spectrum here, but the city, through US Cellular, offers 100 mbps for $30. Unfortunately, we are one block into a first ring suburb and the signal isn’t quite strong enough. For the longest time Comcast and then Xfinity was the only game in town and they had you over a barrel. Now we have options of Centurylink Fiber, the 5G services: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon. Xfinity is being forced to lower their prices. We still had to play the stupid name change game to get the intro price at $50/month for 400 mbps. I think they now also offer 100 mbps for $29. Word here is that the 5G phone internet works well if you are close or have decent sight lines to the transmitter, otherwise big dropoffs and very slow speeds parts of the day. Xfinity still has the most stable signal here. I suspect Spectrum is similar.
Just checked with Xfinity and they aren’t available in my area. Daggum Spectrum monopoly.
edit: neither is Verizon Home Internet…AT&T I can only get 18Mbps lol.
Stupid question, but it relates to this topic (data caps). On average, how much data do you think we use in a day to stream movies, IPTV, etc? I don’t have any clue, so I guess I’m asking if anyone has calculated this. For the average streamer, I would think that the data caps that may be put in place wouldn’t even affect them. I know that’s not the point, the point is Spectrum just gets to do what they want and they shouldn’t, but if you never reach that cap, couldn’t this maybe even help your internet, speed and reliability? It would somewhat cut off the heavy downloaders, etc during peak times and maybe allow for a better experience for you? Just thinking out loud without jumping to negative conclusions lol.
