This is great! Now i wonder if i can install this on my isp supplied modem which also acts as a router. I have admin access, but i haven’t actually tested this. May be worth looking into as i can see all my options as i log in.
My advice for people who are doing this, remember that you may still have to whitelist apps and programs! Like paid apps.
I highly doubt that you can install a 3rd party firmware on any modem/router provided by an ISP. But, you can always connect another router to your existing router and change the IP address on it and use it solely for a VPN router. That’s what I do.
I get that, I just wasn’t interested till i saw this video. I cant change the firmware on the modem but i do have proxy and vpn options, i may see what i can do.
I want that asus router you showcased, things a beast. Im just poor. That merlin firmware is really good.
not the brightest here but is the 2nd router your purchased router? I would like to try this. Troy do you have any other a video download of this?
Hi everyone, i have a question about using Surfshark. I am interested in installing surfshark into my Wi-Fi router so I can run all my streaming devices with a vpn. Right now I have just been installing into each one individually. the problem that I want answer is when I go on certain sites on the web. I sometimes have to put the vpn on pause so the site will open and I’m afraid that it will do the same when install in router which could create a problem to turn vpn on pause if needed. my wife also works from home and her company has very strict security, will this also be a problem. I know very little about these thing so can someone help me out, thanks.
You can by-pass devices on the router through the routers web interface. Simple click on, click off.
@couillard I am running a Cudy AX3000 WIFI 6 router for a couple of years now. I am in the USA & have run a few different locations on the router, & as of late Denver has been working superb. The negative side of the router is I can’t run the Static IP’s that Surfshark has in the router, you simply can’t create Wireguard pairs for them. You can create up to 50 Wireguard key pairs on the Surfshark website, manually generating them & is pretty easy to do. I created key pairs for every location in the USA, then put them in appropriately named folder in my phone. If I am lets say watching tv & develop issues I can log in to the router with my phone & change out the location in a matter of a few seconds. I highly recommend this router to everyone I talk to about using a VPN router as it’s so user friendly. I have an old Asus here that I never could get the VPN to work on & gave up trying on it. Not only does that Cudy work well, it’s CHEAP! Some routers can be a pain to get to work with VPN, but not my Cudy. The good thing about your wife’s security is if she could just run off of other router to use to not use VPN if you have a separate router with VPN installed, so no biggie, she can just run off of your whatever non-VPN router, then you use the VPN router for your needed tv boxes & whatever. I leave my phone connected to it about 95% of the time & everything works well for the most part. There are a few sites that give me fits where I have to disconnect & either run on phone’s internet or connect to one of my other non-VPN routers, but rare really. I have the app on my phone too, but hardly ever use it with the router doing the job. I don’t know what router you have but if you have one that a VPN can be installed on that is not the one I have maybe somebody else can help you get your router connected via VPN if they have the experience for your device. They are all different on how they can be set up for VPN use on them, so Although my Cudy is all I have good experience for I do know they do vary greatly for how to set them up. For me though, after the crash & burn trying to get my old Asus to work on a VPN, buying the Cudy was the best investment I ever made. Broadcasts well, is really small overall size wise & has worked very solid for me. The great thing too is you can double VPN using the Static IP’s with the app on the box which will enable you to run some of the premium apps if you have them. Some work, some don’t but it’s a trial & error type of thing. If you or anyone else reading this ever decide to get one of these routers I will help you get it set up if needed. It truly is very easy to get working with a VPN. First you must create all the Wireguard pairs on the Surfshark website to use in the router. These are extremely small simple .bin files that really are just the key pairs info to install them on the router. Just click on the box to browse, go to where the files are in your computer or your phone, select the file to put in & done. I have mentioned this before on another thread or two, but I haven’t noticed anyone else on here that also has the Cudy like I do. If your reading this & you have one by all means speak up! I would think others would have this router as easy as it is to set up, but so far I haven’t heard anyone on here say they have one. It is a truly unknown gem for sure!
