Sneak Peak at My New IPTV DVR/Plex Media Server

Recording to USB drives is becoming more difficult with newer Android devices due to their strict file permissions.

Here’s a sneak peak at my new IPTV DVR/Plex Media Center that I’ve been using for the past month. This holds all of my IPTV recordings and I can run Plex Media Server along with many other cool apps.

Since this is connected to my home network, I can see it on all of my devices and record to it from every streaming device in my house.

Full video tutorial coming next week on how to configure everything step-by-step.

If you are going to order, I strongly suggest waiting until my next video comes out as I may be using different accessories.

Super cool video, looking forward to even more tutorials on this same idea. One thing that bugged me when I looked the ZimaBoard up on Amazon, is this (picture). Weird way to market a NAS server? “Hackable” lol.

Okay I must be missing the point on this but what are you all recording? KODI/Streemio/IPTV other Apps for all things VOD. IPTV for Live Sports, News, Sports shows, etc…

Multi-vetcor/source all at the same time and enough overhead to record and send/stream. Accessable from any pc/stb in the house and can serve over the internet from what I saw.

Hello @MarkxG I used it to record live sports that I will miss and news shows that you can’t find on VOD. I think I see where you are going with this. No need to record much anymore as you can get it all through VOD apps which I completely agree with. I only use it for sports and news shows.

Make sure you are getting the right ZimaBoard. The one I’m using is showing as $199.90 on their website (832). They’ve got three different boards with different specs.

I got this on Amazon for $229 with free shipping as I’m prime member so you would save $30 buying from ZimaBoard.com if they offer free shipping.

The same people make CasaOS and thats what I use for tv(mostly). I run casaos on a terramaster nas instead of the zima and you can run it on a mini pc also. I run instead of plex I use emby along with xteve and channels dvr all within docker. Sounds complicated but really its not. Its a free os and all you need is the hardware. I have 8tb storage with 32 gb ddr5 ram. Many advantages to a setup like this. The nas is more powerful and doesnt have to work to grab the iptv stuff and takes the load off of your android devices.

TxRon I have to call you on this one, you have one heck of a setup I try to learn it but I couldn’t because it’s a little over my head and it’s not enough resource out there to figure it out or to complete the system. I wish you would develop a video just like Troy does or maybe Troy can develop a video of your system, Xteve, emby, channels DVR and how you set up a system for recording and how it works.

Maybe Troy will do a setup video, he’s much better at that than me. He might use a different approach than I do that you can understand.

Somebody on Reddit had a complete breakdown of how to download and build the system. Unfortunately got deleted by one of their administrators.

Hi Troy, I don’t understand why you went with the SSD to USB Adapter instead of using the SATA Y-Cable that is available from ZimoBoard.com for $3.95 and a direct SATA3 connect should be faster?

This was a test run and I already had the USB adapter. Will dive into more technical stuff in video next week.

Troy if your setup utilizes docker you might be interested in this. That is of couse if you use stremio. It allows the use of stremio web on all devices on your lan and remember the vpn is only needed on the server.

My current setup is similar but I’m using a WDMyCloud drive. The router is configured to issue a static IP for its MAC. I have three TiViMates in my network. All of them have the recording setting pointing to it (SMB://ip_address/folder).

Guys, this is currently (July-11-2024) on Amazon Prime as a lightning deal for $184.99. I figure for that deal, I’ll give it a whirl and try it. 30 day return if I don’t use it.

Marked down on Amazon.

Limited-time deal: ZimaBoard 832 Single Board Server Router X86 Single Board Computer Personal Cloud Network Attached Storage 4K Media Server Dual Gigabit Gateway - PCIe x4 SATA 6.0 Gb/s for HDD/SSD https://amzn.to/3W0gc6z

It appears in pics at least to be large enough to have internally housed a 2.5, or at the very least an M2 SSD. For aesthetics, that would be nice in my opinion instead of just having stuff plugged in and lying around where kids (maybe other people’s are more behaved than mine) can touch and potentially unplug, or if you have 4 cats like me that run everywhere, that also could easily detatch a wire running through the wire spaghetti behind my media console. Just saying, it has enough real estate and heat sinks, so surprised they wouldn’t have thought that far ahead.

It’s a DIY’er sorta gadget. It has good reviews and has a large discord community.
