Setting up the new walmart onn boxes for a few seniors in the family, and am looking for a kodi build that is easy to read, and intuitive. The seniors in question are savy enough, using cell phones, streaming services and such, but I’m trying to keep this as easy a possible. Movies, tv shows are needed on the build. Live and sports would be nice, but not a requirement. One will have a real-debrid setup, the other will not. Any suggestions? Thanks all!
Seems like the Breezz builds to me are the smallest and fastest-I particularly use the Xon build with no widgets-not too many useless add ons or background pictures to slow it down. And first thing go into skin settings and delete any add ons I most likely won’t use,and add 1’s that I do use.
Skeleton Crew is one I created for this purpose. It requires a real debrid subscription though. And Real Debrid has to be renewed when it expires.
There was some good builds in the 709 wizard but it doesn’t seem to be working at the moment. Xlite is a good build in there, they also have free builds for non debrid users.
Hopefully it gets sorted.
Skeleton is a nice, sleek build for sure. If you have to use Kodi, and have to use a build, something like this would be a great option. Two questions come to mind when the initial thread question was presented. Why Kodi and why a build in this scenario? For people who are versed in Kodi and know the ins and outs, sure, this is a perfect way to get them content. For those who haven’t used Kodi and are looking for VOD, there are many options out there, arguably easier (for beginners) to use. If you are dead set on Kodi, I feel like a couple trustworthy add-ons installed from bare Kodi would be a better recipe than a full, large build. I’m not trying to start a Kodi argument here by any means, but Kodi isn’t exactly set it and forget it which is likely what these elderly folks would be looking for.
HI. Im a a person with low vision so I know What your concern is. Last year I found a build in the Grindhouse repo simply called SENIOR BUILD. I have switched around and played with the setting in current builds to make the fonts bigger. But try looking for the senior build. simple background, large fonts and not too busy.
I remember we discussed larger fonts in kodi before.
In the thread @CaPnKWL was using a diggz build but it is not a “Senior” build.
My instructions there may be helpful to increase the font size in any build in the Kodi settings.
@CaPnKWL said he found the Red build to be better for his eyes. Maybe he can chime in and let you know about it. I don’t know the build at all.
Good luck!
Hi @Anna2077 I’ve been using Grindhouse Builds for more than 6 years. I’m not sure I understand your question? Are you not able to find the Seniors build?! I use the Cityscapes Build but just went into the Grindhouse Wizard and see their is a build called KODI for Seniors on 21.
Any reason you want to give them Kodi vs stand-alone APKs (eg Flixvision, Onstream, BeeTV, FilmPlus, LivenetTV, Streamfire, etc)? You do have to deal with ads on some of these (BeeTV and FilmPlus) but a VPN like SurfShark with CleanWeb takes care of this.
@Anna2077 specifically asked for a build. Or did I not understand your question?
You did, I think AMD 237 was just giving it another option that would be a lot easier for seniors to operate versus a Kodi build or add on.
Hi MarkxG, Ive been using the Seniors build on Kodi19.6 for a while and it’s not working right. Can’t navigate anywhere once movie is playing and have to exit. is there a easy way to update to Kodi 21.1and reinstall the Senior build?
Hi @Pete74 here’s what you need to do. I’m assuming you have the Downloader App installed. Easiest way is to open downloader and go to the Troypoint toolbox. If you have neither of these do a search here. You will want to install KODI 21.1 from the Troypoint Toolbox. Then you will need to reinstall the Grindhouse Build and in the Grindhouse Wizard choose the KODI for Seniors on 21. Then Reauthorize Real Debrid and Trakt (if you use it) Let me know if you need more help on this
not to hijack this thread but i have a thought about seniors and streaming since i am one…lol
most cheap iptv services have everything you’re looking for? ease of use for seniors, vod, local channels, sports and ppv all rolled up into one? epg and easy to navigate? just a thought…plus you don’t have to update or do any maintenance
Thanks MarkxG for your prompt reply. Because I’m using a Mac device and not a firestick, I’ll start by downloading the latest Kodi from the official site and then locate the Kodi folder and drag it into the Trash. At least that’s what I read for Mac users. Hopefully that will work and I can figure out how to install the Wizards you mentioned. Oh, then reauthorize Real Debrid once I install the Senior build. Damn, this is getting complicated! I might be messaging you soon…
