Please allow Tivimate to display over other apps Message

I’m just checking if anyone has encountered the message “Please allow Tivimate to display over other apps” I found this when trying to set a reminder in Tivimate for a future show. This is only happening on the new Firestick 4K Max 16GB version, my other Fire products are fine as well as my Shield.

I scanned the internet and did not find an answer.

Can’t hurt to enable that permission.

PF is correct, and in addition as TiViMate allows for multiple screens>PIP, then it’s necessary.

Display over other apps allows tivimate to interupt another app with a popup about an upcoming event. With it enabled and you have a reminder set for a game for example…if you are on stremio watching a movie, a tivimate popup will occur over stremio and if enabled re-direct you to that game.

I’d forgotten all about that. I use it on a regular basis too. :face_with_spiral_eyes: thanks @TXRon

I know what it is…the thing I forgot to mention is that when I tag a reminder for a show I want to watch I get the message " Please allow Tivimate to display over other apps” with a link to settings. When I select settings the screen goes black and a few seconds later it returns me to then last channel I was warching.

Instead of using the link that pops up. Try going directly into the app’s settings on your device and enable that feature and also make sure you enable Notifications. Also, make sure you set a time to remind you in the Tivimate’s ‘Reminders’ settings.

I am testing the ‘Reminders’ feature right now. For whatever reasons, the reminder pop-up never appeared but my recordings did record at the scheduled time.

I really don’t record much and have never used the reminder feature on Tivimate. So, I am not certain why the pop=up reminder does not appear.

Ok, maybe the reminder feature does not pop-up for recordings.
So, I tried setting a reminder for a show that I wished to watch. I had the reminder set to ‘Watch Channel’. So, it did auto change channels as commanded. However, I did not see any pop-up appear beforehand. So, now I have changed the reminder setting to ‘Watch Later’ and will see if the pop-up will appear. I also changed the pop-up duration to ‘None’. I did have it set for 15 seconds and may have not noticed it?

This has got me talking to myself…I AM ON A MISSION! lol

Success! The Reminder pop-up appeared on schedule.

Summary: Turn on Notifications, Set Reminder Duration, Set Default Action

Did you find a solution? Having the same problem. Cant find any option on my 4k max

Nope, suggestions I received were not applicable and some were off the wall…I gave up in the meantime. I will revisit it next week when I have more time.

This is the only suggestion I have if your popup link goes to blank screen, which is odd.
Manage App Permissions on Fire TV
Go to Settings on your Fire TV.
Select Applications .
Select Manage Applications.
Select the application you want to manage.
Select Permissions.
For TiViMate allow all.

That was one of the first things I verified when I ran into the problem…

What version of TiViMate are you using? I do know some Fire OS devices did have a glitch like this with the older version.

I don’t know if this will help but try and disable ‘Show black screen when switching channels’.

Tivimate settings>appearance>player>show black screen when switching channels (Disable)

ver 4.7.0, same as my other three Fire products. Only happening on the new Firestick 4K Max. Anyway, that’s not the problem. When I try to execute a reminder, I get the message and when I select the link it goes black.

Maybe try a different setting in ‘Reminders’, i.e., Watch, Watch Later, Dismiss

settings>Other>Reminders>Default Action

Also, maybe adjust your 'Popup Timeout

Just doing some brainstorming. I don’t use any FS stuff. So, I really don’t know.

I got it working using adblink utilty. Apparently firestick 4k max still has few problems.

That’s great that “you” were able to get “Display over other apps” to work on the new 4K Firestick Max (OS 8). How did you do it using ADBLink Utility? I’m sure your response will help the OP and others looking for a solution.

Here is the fix,

You can install ADB Shell from the Troypoint Toolbox or use some some sort of ADB App.

You can then enter in this command in its entirety,

adb shell pm grant ar.tvplayer.tv android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

*Easiest way,
If you have an iPhone, install the “atv Tools” app from the App Store. It will allow you to connect to your Firestick remotely on the same WiFi Network. You can then enter the command using the keyboard on your phone.

Same issue for me on the new 4K Max. Would you mind sharing the adblink commands you used for Tivimate?

I’ve got the same issue and downloaded the ADB Shell but haven’t a clue about using it. I put the command in you specified and then it wants a number which is 5555 but doesn’t seem to do anything.
