ONN TV Box "US Compatible Only"?

You need a main electrical plug adapter not some USB one.

NEAT, you’ll also need a voltage adapter, since the ONN TV box operates on 120 voltage. There are some rather inexpensive travel adapters that should change the voltage and allow you to plug on the ONN box.

This is not true.

Here’s the specs right off the box:
Input: AC 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 250mA max; Output DC 5V/1A

In other words, it’ll work globally with the right adapter for your location,

You can use any charger cable that will deliver 5V or more. You don’t need anything fancy or voltage conversions for most consumer electronics. The times when it matters most are appliances with motors or heating elements. That’s when you’ll start frying stuff if you’re not paying attention to voltages.

I use my onn device with a phone charger, a battery pack and even use the USB port on the TV to power it. I’ve used the same onn device in USA, Germany, Luxembourg, Malta, Italy, Spain and UK… with the same phone charger, just with a wall adapter to accommodate the different outlet styles.

Hey @Dobbson . It has nothing to do with the 5V. This is house current plug which is 120V here and it’s that plug that is different from the UK Plug. I never ever mentioned voltage conversions. So devices from North America will require an adapter plug for the UK house plugs. As I posted a link to. I also never recommend using the USB plug on any TV for streaming devices. I reread your comment. You call it a wall plug and that is the adapter this thread has been talking about. Also not sure where a charger came into it. Don’t know anything that needs charging on the streamer.

Nm. You’re not getting what I’m saying. You do what you need to.

I actually don’t need to do anything. This was about one thing only, the style of the electric main plug, female and male, and the necessary adapters to use anywhere. Nothing else. BTW I don’t have or use ONNs.

If you have a firestick plug and cable it’ll work with the 20 dollar Onn box, same voltage output, same amps.

These newer gen Onn boxes along with the Pro are all impressive for the cost that they are. I know it doesn’t exactly translate into as much of a bargain outside the US, but I think if you tested them, you would agree that the features versus cost is one of the better deals out in the market.

Oh I agree. A heck of a great price for what ya get. Just geeting them here in Canada is a royal pain.

Should be a lot easier now bringing them across the border, lack of Secret service and what not.

But you gotta live close to the border to make it worthwhile.

BTW, I hope that you all are doing ok with the fires and the smoke.

Been rough here. The town of Jasper lost about 40% of homes and businesses. Such a gorgeous national park and the devistation is appalling. Hard not to cry.

Being an ex-firefighter I know what you mean. So sad about Jasper and I feel so sorry for the folks displaced by that fire. Many years ago we were assigned to protect the area close to Yosemite. I was so glad that it didn’t make it into the park.

Yes they have Geo blocked ones in Canada even though the setup still shows Canada in the set up page. Now that they have intentionally made bricks out of these are they going to take them back and refund the cost (Like ya)!
Does anyone have a work around figured out yet.
Apparently Thomson out of the UK sell the same box at an unreal price so Walmart geo blocked the ONN so folks in Uk forced to buy through Thomson.
I’m sure they can include Canada under the set up as they have with The Us snd Puerto Rico but geez sounds like Trump involved in Streaming boxes
lol😂

They are Geo blocked st end of Nov.2024.
If you have one still working do not factory reset or update it

This has been covered fully in another post that I am sure this will be directed to. In a nutshell, use a Hotspot VPN with a USA server to set it up. Once it’s set up, you’re fine. Use as normal on your home router set to anywhere you want.

Thanks to @Wizzard For sharing this info on how to setup the Onn 4k Streaming Box in Canada. I just did two of them for family and works great, Thanks. This is with ExpressVPN Here
And this is what Wizzard did with SurfShark VPN for the Onn 4k pro Here

I just got one today and I’ve tried everything to register it. No good, I’ve spent about 3 hours trying different things to get it to work but nothing has. I’m sending it back to Amazon. Now I need to find a Google TV Box that works internationally.
