Very recently a message appeared on the Walmart website that said: “US compatible only”. The message is attached to both the Google TV 4k box and the 4K Pro. Does anyone know about this? Have they added a geo blocker? Will Google boxes already in use in Canada (and elsewhere) soon to be disabled? Thanks for any insights.
Pretty sure ive heard of people buying the boxes from other countrys and not heard of a complaint. Only thing I can think of is the electrical plug which is a simple work around.
Thanks. I hope that’s the isssue.
Ron is right on. It’s just due to our electrical outlet plugs in North America. They should say North America Compatible only, but I suspect it’s due to the fact that walmart US is a seperate entity from Canada. We haven’t even seen the Onn Pro available here yet and may not for several more months.
That’s reassuring. Thanks. I’ll be visiting Canada (home) soon and plan to take some ONN boxes for my family there.
Buy a bunch and bring them here and upsell them, The ONN Pro is going for as much as $150 cdn. You could pay for your whole trip.
It’s been years since I visited Canada. I don’t recall but thought that the electrical system was the same as the US.
It is exactly the same. Who said it was different my friend?
I am guessing he’s just going by what @TXRon said about the outlets. I am thinking he missed the part where you said it is a North American outlet but you have a Canadian Walmart.
I’m in the UK, bought 2 Onn 4k Pros when in Tennesse in May, they both work perfectly over here.
A simple US to UK plug adapter from amazon, all works perfectly.
OOPS! I misread and neglected to see the North America part. Silly me!
And in the process of replying to you, I somehow ended up replying to myself. It’s not my day.
Ahh @JerryJ my friend. Lifes little foibles don’t matter at all. As long as you are well and can laugh at yourself, which I do on a daily basis, ok sometimes hourly, then all is right in the universe. Good night and be well.
Good morning Miki,
Do you really think we will see the Onn Pro when not even the Onn 4k has shown up and the electronic departments have not even heard of it even though they carry a full line of other Onn products?
I agree with you. Walmart here in Canada is no where near as well run as in the US. It isn’t just the Electronics either. I have asked almost weekly and all I get is the typical shoulder shrug. The managers are no different. I’m just not prepared to spend the extra 37% exchange rate to have one shipped from the states. I may once the newer and improved Pro comes out which may be in time for Christmas. Afterall Santa and I are buds.
Walmart in the USA is so much more fun to shop at. They have so many products you never see here and seldom do I ever walk out empty handed. As long as you don’t mind that unlike ours that were all refurbished and look as good and clean as any other store you would go into, theirs looks like a war zone
I totally agree. We were touring on our Goldwing and stopped into a walmart we saw, in the US, and couldn’t believe a Samsung Camera we wanted was available there and for $150 USD and here in Canada it was $450 Cdn and not Available in any Cdn Walmart. The electronic dept here is an absolute joke and the staff haven’t a clue. Management provides no training whatsoever.
As an example what Walmart has changed in the last few years in the United States, Visalia California, they had the dirtiest store I believe within 20 miles if not this whole Central valley. People would drive from Visalia to Tulare, 10 miles, to shop at Walmart because it was so much cleaner. Walmart since then went through some changes especially manager changes, now that store in Visalia they doubled it in size made it a “big” Walmart and the floors are polished. One big change for the good! They don’t call it a super Walmart because the city of Visalia refuse to allow them to build a super Walmart in their town. So Walmart converted an old house to home building to a Walmart and then expanded the one I just spoke of. They got around their politics!
Walmart seems to be stepping up their pay game as well to top store managers. I recently read a Wall Street Journal article that some top store managers can make up to $500K/year.
I use mine in Ecuador and it works great
I’ve sent onn boxes to a few friends in the UK and it works. What doesn’t work is the Live TV Tab .
