how is the Nnidia for updates, have been reading on Nvidia form sites and lots of people have problems once an update comes out, need to apply some patches to the unit
Yes the unit is pricey $259.99 CA on Amazon. I would use this mostly for streaming but there are many other options for this unit that I would look at, I like to fiddle with things in my spare time.
Iāve had mine less than a year so i cant really say about updates. Whatever it loaded when i set it up is what i know. Havenāt heard of or had any problems myself. Some people had them since 2017 so they probably seen lots of changes.
$259CA is way more than i expected. What does that mean in USD?
Well thatās nice to hear that you have no problems, Just need something dependable and certified with no malware, google approved. That is $190.81 US dollars
Cheaper than here right now. It just sounded so much more expensive lol.
2019 Shield Pro here. Rarely gets updates but rarely needs it. Driving a top of the line Samsung TV and surround sound system. Awesome home theater setup. Hours spent reading up on settings and just as many hours tweaking things. At one time I set up,and sold, thousands of Firesticks to tourists in Mexico. Havenāt touched one in over a year since I got the pro. so many options from plex to NAS. Attached a Samsung EVO 256 SSD two weeks ago for recording and to learn how to effectively setup recordings from TiViMate. Took about an hour to figure out the best methods for recording and playback, as well as what apps were needed. So some of that time was learning how to use the apps and their settings. So while they may be expensive there isnāt much you canāt do with them if youāre willing to learn. I havenāt mentioned Gaming as I donāt do that but if you do then this device has that covered as well. The 16 GB internal storage is all I need for apps.
Have fun and STREAM ON!!
This thread went from a question on linking the Onn box to a TV, to bashing the box. Dollar for dollar, the Onn boxes (especially the newest gen), are quite impressive. I personally donāt use them for my main box, I have Shields for that, but the Onn does everything I need it to do and more. It is easy to program and setup, and great for satellite tvs (bedroom, den, etc) in the house. It is great for my 5-year-old son tooā¦he uses it daily. I think it is all about expectations and what exactly you are looking to use it for. It obviously canāt have some of the high end features a Shield has, that is why there is $180 difference in sale price.
Did you ever attempt to change the settings of the original remote?
Did you go into the settings and change the settings of the remote buttons from auto CEC to RCA TV IR?
Does RCA TV appear under devices?
Settings > remotes and accessories > setup remote buttons
If you follow these steps it will get to the right menu.
Unless you HAVE to use Netflix or Prime (and you donāt) Why do you need a Certified Box? So many here are programmed to think that Cheap China Stock Boxes are laden with Malware and that simply is not the case.
Matteos, no I did not go into the setting to try and change the original setting, but now I will try that setup and see if that helps with the RCA setup, Yes the RCA TV appears under devices
Miki, I had no intentions for this post going that way bashing the Onn box , I love this little box and how easy it was to setup, I just had 2 issues with it and was trying to see if anyone had a fix for both. Sorry to everyone if this post has offended you.
Sorry @gonefishing not sure what you mean, Iām not offended in the slightest. I freely admit Iām one of the leading offenders when it comes to bashing the ONN. I have to seriously bite my tongue when I see positive comments for them, so I tend not to comment at all. Have a wonderful day.
All is good Miki, I just read in you last post that this thread āwent from a question on linking the Onn box to a TV, to bashing the box.ā and was apologizing for this as I had no intentions of this happening.
Ahh got ya. Iāve made the same mistake a few times myself, especially with a lenghty thread that drifts off topic. Live and learn.
Matteos, tried your suggestion on the setting but since my Onn box will not let me setup my RCA TV (volume, power & input setting) it will not let me select it to change it to what you suggested (RCA TV IR) so back to the drawing board, not going to give up just yet, somehow I should be able to make this box recognize my RCA TV
Here are the instructions to set-up the ONN remote to control your tvā¦
First, hit the settings button*, then press ok
Next, scroll down to Remotes and Accessories, press ok
Then, scroll down to set-up remote buttons and press ok
Press ok on add device,
Press ok on TV
Then select your make of tv
Find RCA and follow the steps for each functionā¦
I hope this can helpā¦
Thanks Pez149, I followed this instructions for both my TVāS, Sony one first with no problems, then I did this for my RCA TV that took me through 14 options for the volume controls but all 14 did not work, So I did a factory reset, then hooked this up to my RCA TV to start from scratch, paired the remote to the Onn box, then went to setup the TV next, followed the instructions ( same as your above) but got the same results, all the setup for volume, power and input would not accept any of the options to pair the Onn remote to this TV. Going to see if there is a Onn support form or number to call to see if there is anything they can suggest. I did buy a 6-device Onn universal remote to see if I could use this one for the box and the TV. On the instruction sheet it showed 1 Onn streaming box code to use 39400, I entered that code in the setup for this universal remote and by the instruction direction, the code was good, but I could not control my Onn box with this universal remote. Just trying to eliminate using 2 remotes for the Onn box with my RCA TV, the Onn remote to navigate in the box and the original RCA TV remote for the power and volume.
Iām glad you finally figured it outā¦
It might just be that rca model tv is not listed in the remote codes.
I donāt know what year or model it is.
Iām just glad you figured it.
Thanks for your postā¦
