Onn streaming box login to hotel wifi

I’ve previously stayed at Holiday Inn and gotten a login page for wifi. Now, it connects, but says says i need to log in. I can’t go any farther. No login page comes up. I can click to forget the IHG network, but it still has it saved. This is the ONLY gripe I’ve got with the Onn box, but it’s a biggie.

Anyone have an idea what I can do?

That is called captive portal. You might be able to use a browser with the onn and connect that way but you might only be able to use the browser on the internet because most if not all apps have no captive portal abilities.

Yeah, I’ve tried Firefox and a couple other browsers…so far, no dice. Short of doing a factory reset (which im not gunna), I’m out of ideas.

Have you had luck with any other box connecting?

My firestick works fine, but I am trying to move on

Wonder if that’s more of an android 10 problem than an ONN problem…would be interested to see if any others have had this problem with motel wifi…like with a KM6 or other mecool et al running 10…? Firesticks use their android based OSs so that can’t be compared…

Hey panga. So Amazon is FireTV OS based on Android. ONN is AndroidTV OS, also based on Android. I think ONN is now AndroidTV 10. Mecool km2 is also Android TV 10.

It is, as i just discovered. For some reason I was under the impression that it was Android 11. Dang.

Copy…as far as I know…the ONN & Mecool android tv 10 OSs are the same, with the exception of, I believe, 2 update/patches w/ONN…whereas the KM6 has had nada…I cannot speak of the KM2 or other Mecool models, but pretty sure Ron has a half dozen of each of em :astonished:

And…android is in the firestick genome…just don’t know exactly how all that works…above my software ignorance pay grade :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

All good Panga. The Firestick FireTV OS is integrated into the base Android. Amazon doesn’t tell Google how they integrate Fire TV onto Android and of course Google doesn’t tell Amazon. Go figure. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Now what I’m wonering is, as both Onn and KM2 are both AndroidTV 10 would they both have the same AndroidTV shortcomings? But I too am no coder. I should have learned, but to late now.

Ha ha…roger that…I’ve heard it’s built on the android kernel…as windows was built on the linux kernel…at least that’s what I’ve heard…when I hear kernel, I’m thinking of something yellow/white on a cob smothered in butter…so  Anyway…I don’t know what would be different with the ONNs or KM2s…other than the aforementioned patches

I find it strange that one box can connect and others cant. If its a captive portal then no box will connect in the regular fashion and nothing here is android related(imho). A work around if it is captive would be use a laptop to connect then set the laptop as a hot spot and connect the box to that wifi.

Maybe it’s because i have an IHG account and it recognizes me, even though the login credentials change (hotel and room number). Im pretty dang annoyed, fo sho

Okay, thanks Ron for pointing me in the right direction. It’s amazing how much more effective your search results are when you use the right words! “Captive portal” led me to Speedify. They wanna sell me VPN, which I don’t need, but the app leads you right to the login page after you connect. Downloaded from Google play, easy!

I use one of my onn boxes in hotels. Use the browser in downloder. Open the browser search for google and you will get the redirect to the hotel wifi login page. From there you can login to their wifi. I tried other browsers but no luck.

I eventually figured out the issue. The Onn doesn’t keep the date and time, so it won’t connect without manually setting it up.

Interesting discussion. So there is a way to manually set the date and time on the ONN? And this will allow it access to the captive portal, which will allow you to login to motel wifi. Interesting.

Yes indeed. Just go to device settings and manually enter it, after you uncheck the option to have the network set the date/time. Then, connect the wifi through the settings menu and when you open a browser, voila!
