ONN Setup - out of country

Im in Spain, I connected to a US server using Surfshark on my mobile. I then shared my Internet connection on my phone, turned on my ONN 4k and connected the ONN to the shared mobile connection from my mobile. You need to know the code of your phone shared connection to log on to it.

UPDATE. I do not have access to a Windows computer, only two separate Android devices, both have Surfshark.

I have obviously tried using my phone’s VPN enabled hotspot, without success.

If anyone knows how to use ONN out of country, please let me know. Thank you

I bought a cheap Tplink portable router set it up with vpn from us and that solves my issue and any in the future.

@razor07 something like this?

I’m sure it will work, google portable routers, I set mine up with Nord vpn and set it to a US city, worked for me and I take it with me when I travel just in case something happens, but once you get past the geo lock, there has been no issues for me.

Excellent info. Tx @razor07 have a buffer free weekend my friend. Looks like spring has finally arrived here. Be well.

I’ve given up with my aging Firestick and couldn’t find a reasonably priced ONN for the UK anywhere. They probably did me a favour by blocking side loading.

Amazon don’t currently have ONN available or I can pay ridiculous postage to cover transit from the US via an Ebay purchase.

I’ve opted for a Xiaomi box(Google) and so far it’s been fine. I’m using PIA VPN. Couldn’t get a Thomson box either. I’ve put on Projectivy Launcher to squeeze the bloat on the front page too.

I sound like I know what I’m doing!:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I found the ONN Plus does NOT install in Canada. ONLY USA.

Is it the ONN Plus or Pro? My Plus does the exact same thing.

Thanks for sharing, I bought 3 on des and came back to Australia and get the same message. US or PR only. Will try hooking up to laptop. Thanks

Onn plus

Guys, I am currently working/living in Thailand. I picked up Onn 4k plus in March when in US for conference. I had a dickens of a time trying to set up first time here in Bangkok. Of course, I got the region block and tried my darndest to connect via hotspot with phone and laptop to start it up and it just would not connect. Finally, I got fed up and installed new ASUS mesh system with VPN fusion. Got the ASUS system working las week and started up the Onn over weekend. Works like a champ. And after initial start up on VPN it works perfectly now with no VPN.

I set it up following along with Troy start up vid. This is an amazing little black puck. It is playing everything as well as my Formuler and may just be my go to if it keeps up the pace.

Thanks very much to Troy and the entire forum for keeping the info flowing.

I just got a Onn pro set it up in the USA and it works perfectly here in Utah. I’m moving to Mexico soon and wondering if my Onn box will work there in Mexico with a vpn after I have set it up here in the USA . I’m aware of setup problems trying to setup outside of USA , but it might work if it’s already setup here in USA

Once you have it set up there should be no geo restrictions. I have set them up in the USA and then used in Canada with or without VPN. No problems.

@Ziggy22 I have a question, although it wouldn’t affect me since I live in the US. If you have to perform a factory reset when you are out of the US would that cause an issue?

I think so @JerryJ as you have now set it back to the very beginning and that would trigger the location function and it would now see you as not being in the country the ONN was meant for and so block the attempt to set it up.

I have not done that, but I would agree with Miki. You would then have to use a hotspot with a VPN to set it up again.

I would recommend buying a cheap travel router set to US city, I have 1 and works perfect, never had luck with hotspot, router works everytime. Yes when you factory reset it goes back to geo locked.
