When setting up ONN box i try to bypasd putting in phone number but wont let me. I go to my son’s home and it doesn’t require a phone number to set box up. Any ideas?
Are you setting it up with a Google account? I dont remember putting my phone # in but logging into my G account.
Or are you trying to setup without an account?
Trying to set up with generic account. To be hid so to speak. Just wondering if my internet is blocking me

I am able to do it while connected to hotspot off phone. Just cannot do it on my internet.
Is it possible the phone’s hotspot is giving a phone number to the streaming device? Not necessarily your # but one associated with the hotspot signal.
I would imagine that signal has to be identified somehow back to the phone.
I really dont know. Just asking.
As far as I know you need a Google account to set up the ONN Box. As a work around you can always create a fake Google account then you will have a burner gmail email address you can use when setting up the box
Right but do you need a phone # for the fake google account? I never set one up. Dont they need verification of some sort?
I have set several up with fake gmail accounts eith no phone number being entered. Just starting happening today.

I set up a G account and loaded onto my Onn 4k that was factory reset. It never asked for my phone number. I used my home wifi.
At what part of the process is it asking for it? The only time i saw mentioned is when i put the email adress in. It said enter phone number or email.
At that time i use to just go past it but now it wont let me go past it
Sorry but i dont see what you are seeing. There was no place i needed to get past for a phone number. I entered the Gmail address/password when prompted and it loaded up.
This is new to me so i am probably not understanding correctly. I only added my actual account in the past.
Maybe there was a software update that changed this?
Hopefully someone else knows better.

I have an ONN box but it never required me to input my phone number…? Where exactly are you seeing it? Does it ask you for an email address first?

I set up oann box and used a burnner gmail with no phone needed

Perhaps two factor authentication is selected?
I Hotspot off my phone with vpn and had no issues with phone number was able to just skip that step
How about setting up a Google Voice number. It sure does come in handy.

Apparently there has been a major update on ONN boxes. I brought one back from America 2 weeks ago and went to set it up but straight away i got a region locked message which i can’t get past.
Reading up about it many people outside of the USA are now getting the same message, especially after a box update. I am in the UK, does anyone know of a simple solution to getting around the region locked thing?
Have you tried a VPN?

As Miki said, if you have a VPN you should be able to change your VPN server location to somewhere in the US.
