Oh dear… how long before they start blocking “unverified” apps???
We have gone through this in countless posts. IF they are going to do that they already have stated that the end user will have the ability to prevent that. Might need to wait a day on any new apps but they will allow you to circumvent their blocking
Isn’t this just a block on setups. For example, if you’re in the UK and bring in an ONN it’s not going to allow you to use it. USA, CA, & Puerto Rico users … no change!
ONN devices were never sold for European usage, thus it’s just a more stringent enforcement of existing policy … maybe patent agreements?

I really don’t understand the mindset of buying a device I know will not work in my country unless I jump through hoops to make it work, I would just buy a different device. Now sometimes boredom sets in and I may want to frustrate myself, I then may buy one for that purpose.
I thought that Canada was blocked also. The reason I am mentioning it that there have been quite a few posts here on the Insider on how to get the units working in Canada.
@DaveZerf Agree. Spend an extra $100-$150 for a device that should last you for years and not strangle your objectives.
A couple of years ago, Walmart’s Onn streaming devices began checking the user’s internet connection location and blocking the setup process if the device was being used outside of the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico, where the devices are officially sold.
Ah! I was confused (nothing new!). There was a period where Wizard wrote up a plan on how to get the ONN boxes to work outside the US and specifically Canada. But I didn’t realize that WallyWorld is selling the boxes in Canada now.
My comment wasn’t so much about cost, but if you are buying an Onn you don’t want to spend much, so 200+ on a device is not going to happen for those people, but why spend $60 USD on an Onn and have to mess with it to maybe get it to work, just buy a google streamer, you were buying google tv any ways in the Onn, and it should just work out of the box.

I have several ONN devices which I set up and use in the US. No problems. However, I travel outside of the U.S. frequently and typically bring a firestick to access my services either directly via my local (non-U.S.) internet or via VPN (connected to a U.S. server) when traveling abroad.
Given the current issues around the firestick, I’m switching to ONN devices.The ONN stick I’ll travel with will be one which I have set up in the U.S. Any insight as to whether I can use this pre-setup stick to access my services from outside the U.S. without any issue?
I can not answer your question, but next time I travel I would take them both and try the Onn and if it works great if not you have the FS for back up. I would wonder though, if it works in one country will it work in all of the ones I go to normally?
Last year I was in the USA, purchased a Onn 4k pro and set this up in the USA, returned home to Canada and the box is still working, since then I have purchased another Onn 4k pro from Walmart in Canada and set this up with no problems, then I purchased the new ONN box v2 again from Walmart and also set this up with not problem, the ones that sell in Canada setup in Canada no problem. Next time I go out of the country will take one of the boxes I purchased in Canada to see if it works out of country
Most definitely do that and let us know your findings? I thought US boxes would only work in US and Canada boxes the same? There’s always work arounds I know? but you shouldn’t have to with these ?

Probably cost more to code in universal advertising from all over. This way they can limit the space used by focusing on specific markets and their advertising needs/wants.
You would think but in reality the sheer amount of people doing what we are doing is a very small amount in the grand scheme of things. Walmart has a Million SKU’s, yes the demand for these boxes is high right now but the majority of people are still mainstream using cable and paying for ala cart streaming services.
And I might add it’s mostly us older folks here. The kids aren’t doing this from what I’ve seen
Yes, that is quite strange. All of our entitled kids paying through the nose for instant gratification courtesy of Spotify, Netflix, etc!
