A few years ago I disabled the auto update function on my Shield and haven’t allowed any updates. I purchased my Shield in 2017. Will it be safe to update from 9.0 to 9.1.1 without installing 9.1?
You should have no prob with that. I have done it to one of mine that I got in 2017. But all I can say is with electronics you never can tell.
9.1.1 is a stable update. I had no issues with 9.1 either. Here’s a changelog of what 9.1.1 improved or added.
No problem on my Pro either. 9.1.1(33.2.0.157) has been stable for me.
Have you guy’s noticed any improvements after loading 9.1.1
Only know 9.1.1 and its been good so far.
However, I did start getting advertising (apple product for me) on my Shield Pro recently. Not sure if keeping the older version will prevent that.
No ads at all for me so far.
I used to say that too. The ads finally started showing up today. Maybe yesterday i forget.
Good luck. I hope thet dont get you.
Ahh they might but really I set TiViMate to autostart on boot and see the shield pro home screen for less than 5 seconds, so even if there are ads they never bother me.
@Miki, The 4K Maxx turn the TV on by the HDMI cable and be ready to stream. I’ve done everything I can to my shield pro but it will not turn my TV on thru the HDMI cable. Is there a setting that will turn the TV on to the HDMI cuz I don’t see it and I’ve tried all of them.
I’m not near my Pro. I’ll check my settings ASAP. Did you enable CEC? As soon as I can I’ll look into my settings and let ya know.
Same as Miki i am not by my tv. But try this that i found on a search
SHIELD TV is configured by default to send CEC events to wake or sleep your TV and receiver. You can enable or disable these features by going to Settings → Display & Sound → Power Control
Good luck
Enable everything in the Shield’s Power Control settings. Enable HDMI_CEC in Display & Sound settings.
Under Power Control I have everything turned on but IR Samsung TV, IR Samsung SOUND BAR. I’ve never messed with Change IR setup for TV/projector or Change IR setup for reciever/soundbar. Now my system being new it does all the auto setup for itself. As soon as it gets a signal from a device it turns both the TV and Soundbar on automatically and switches my inputs to the active device. So all I have to do is turn the Shield on and that activates my TV and Soundbar and switches to that HDMI input automatically. I have never even used the remotes for my TV or Soundbar. So you may want to mess around with the IR(infra red) settings on the Shield but also check your TVs manual for setup advice.
I was reading over at reddit that the ads are only affecting US users atm.
Well doesn’t that just figure. Us Canuks always get the American left overs.
When is 9.1.2 going to auto update on the Shields?
When I have all the buttons activated for the remote power control, when I turn the TV off the shield turns the TV back on. Now I can manipulate the switches to where I can turn off the shield first then it’ll shut off the TV but that’s not what I want to happen because that’s three times I have to hit the button. I want it I want to be able to shut the TV off and then shut the shield off. But that won’t work. Also my shield will not switch the input, HDMI, back to the shield. No matter what I do. I mess with the IR for the remote but that defeats the purpose of what I want to do I want to go shut everything off by one button on the remote for the shut the TV off and everything goes off.
Note the? on the page title. I’ve been hearing of this update for several weeks now. So far, it hasn’t appeared on my device.
Besides, it looks more like an update for gamers. I have been getting a whole bunch of emails from Nvidia lately and they are all game centric. I really think Nvidia is steering away from streaming ad concentrating more on gaming.
Any benefit streamers will get will be more or less gleaned from the gamer side of things…imho.
