So I received my Shield Pro on June 22nd. I have set it up with two IPTV services using Tivimate. Today, the remote is not responding…though I didn’t think it was batteries, I changed them. No luck. I don’t know how to tell id it’s the remote or the Shield that’s not working. So my questions: (please don’t get to technical) 1. Is there a way to tell which one is not working? 2.I have another working Shield, is there any way to pair that remote with my non-working Shield? 3. If Amazon wants to only replace the remote, will anew one work with my current Shield? 4. I have a USB flash drive on my non-working Shield, if I receive new Shield, can I plug it into the new Shield and have it update the epg?
Any guidance would be appreciated … I hate having to start all of this again with signing in to the two services, Tivimate and all…
Whoa @TXRon you are a veritable fountain of info. I have had my remote refuse to work on several occasions and a reboot fixes that but without the remote a reboot is difficult. I get around that by using my mini Keyboard that has a dongle plugged into the Shield Pro. I read the article you linked to, downloaded the app from the Google Playstore, installed it on my tablet and as it is synced to my phone it gets installed there as well, paired it and tested it. This is the easiest method I have ever seen in the years I’ve had my Shield. Big time thank-you
I just found out there is an app for the shield that I can use for now on my phone. I’ll see if I can reboot the shield using this app. If not, Amazon gave me the contact info for Nvidia that I will need if I have to replace it.I’ll update tomorrow or Thursday. Many thanks for your input. I hope a simple reboot of the shield will make it work…
You can always reboot it by unplugging the power, wait for a couple of minutes and plug the power back in. Keep the remote closer than 10 feet and once it has completely loaded to the home screen the remote will work. But I love this nVidia App from the playstore.
I just paired my 4K Maxx remote to my nevershield Pro. I can’t stand that triangle looking remote! Reminds me some of these monster movies they only have three fingers but yet they’re flying a big ship. it’s got lots of buttons. LOL.! Kind of like the monsters on war of the worlds LOL.!
AJS1, we share the same disdain for the Shield remote.
I couldn’t get the Fire 4K remote to work on my Shield Pro at all. But was able to get the Alexa Voice Pro remote to work and it’s backlit. I’ve never used it for anything other than power on/off, OK, back, Home, settings(hamburger button), rewind/forward, pause/fast-forward and typing in stuff. It’s odd though, on SmartTube I can only open the keyboard with the pause button. I’ve not used the Alexa remote for changing channels, volume or the voice option.
Anyhow, I tried to find my manual for the Shield Pro with no luck, I do recall that there is a method to pair the remote on initial start up which may work for this instance.
Mine has stopped responding a handful of times. Had to unplug the box for a good 10 minutes at least then plug it back in. Sometimes I have to do this if I lose audio too. Allowing it to rest always does the trick.
When I had this issue I realize the remote was trying to pair to another device in the next room. My fix was turning off my other device which was a steam link in my case. Once I did that the remote paired without any issues. I powered on my steam link after and everything worked as they should.
Resident alien here. I love the triangular remote. Sits perfectly in the crease of my cupped fingers. Easy access for my thumb. Back lite never fails and I have a silicon cover that makes it soft. After getting this remote I no longer like those flat rectangular remotes that feel like a brick in my hand. To each their own.
Good morning all you insiders, be well.
Oh and that nVidia app on my phone and tablet is awesome. I love the trackpad option. Mega easy to install and pair.
I was able to use the app (I never knew there was one for Nvidia) to reboot the device. The remote is now working again. Many thanks to all for your thoughts and input. It’s so great to have a forum like this with knowledgeable people …
I had this happen to me with the remote so I connected my wechip to the nividia shield for a couple days. After a couple of days I tried the nividia shield remote again and it worked fine. This has happened a couple of times and I never figured out why it does this.
