I also have had issues with the remote - i pull out the power cord from the Shield & reboot that way. Some times that fixes things, other times i’ll have to use the app on my phone. It works great. BTW, the box i have issues with is running Android 11, the other box which doesn’t have remote issues is still on Android 9.
Bob had asked if you can use another Shield remote on the box you’re having issues with. Can you use one remote on two seperate Shields?? I would think so but need the gurus to give me a definitive answer.
TIA.

If the remote stopped responding or your Shield is frozen then you won’t be able to pair a second remote. Although the remote has IR capability for controlling a TV or other IR device, that’s not how it connects to the Shield itself.
As for the mobile app, I’m not sure if it connects automatically based on being connected to the same WiFi network. Based on what others have said, I think it does, and that would be your best option.
But why would you not connect the power and let it sit for a while to reset and fix the issue with the remote you already have? There’s apparently nothing wrong with the remote itself when this issue happens. It’s all on the software side. I have to leave mine unplugged for a good 15 minutes sometimes. If I plug it back in too quickly it doesn’t reset and the problem persists.

Obviously i wouldn’t be able to pair a second Shield remote if the first quits responding.
All i asked is, is it possible to pair a second Shield remote & use it to operate both boxes??
And yes, the app needs to be connected to the same WiFi network.

I don’t think so, no. If it could though, your one remote would control both devices at the same time whenever it’s in range. I’m assuming this is not what you want to do.
There may be universal remotes out there that will let you pair to more than one Bluetooth device though. That would give you the option of switching devices to control one at a time.
