Nvidia Shield Pro TV device

Thinking about purchasing a Nvidia Shield Pro. One question…will it be able to control both my TV and Yamaha AVR with the remote that comes with it?

If there is an app that Nvidia Shield pro can’t run, then in the streaming world that app may not be needed.

I’m going from a Firecube to the Shield. I’m hoping this is a step in the right direction?

That’s a matter of opinion, especially if it’s a 3rd gen cube, and also depends on what your needs are.

Kodi, IPTV, Netflix and Prime video.

If your looking to jump out of the amazon world, then yes thats a big jump in the other direction

I use HDMI-CEC to hook TV, Shield and Receiver together.

That’s the primary reason. I feel like they are starting to restrict it’s capabilities to suit their needs.

Well other than Kodi a 4K Max will play the others just fine. I think jumping to the Shield is more about expanding your horizons and doing more than say the Max can. TXRon is the one who can give you real world advice and experience regarding the Shield Pro

To make sure our answers address all of your questions, no, the Shield TV remote won’t actually be able to control your surround sound receiver. At least not fully. But, you can use CEC to power up and down the system together, and the audio volume will work as well. If you need to change settings on the receiver or inputs, etc, you will either need the remote that came with it or get something like a Harmony Hub (or another universal remote that will program to your Yamaha).

I found a bit of a glitch when trying to use the CEC method. When using that, it controls both the audio on my TV and the audio for my AVR simultaneously and not what I prefer. I choose the IR method instead.

You can do so much with the Nvidia shield , it’s friendly with most everything and if you’re a gamer it is great for that too. I bought it thinking it would be better than the firestick and it didn’t disappoint

And if you want to become an advanced user then the options available within the Shield Pro are simply amazing and allow you to optimize the vid and audio for the best possible experience on almost every system out there. Be careful with the Developer options though, as that takes hours of learning in order to understand the exact results that the options deliver, and the effect they will have on your system.

Been a while since I’ve been in this forum…Anyways, I just purchased a new LG OLED tv and have been experiencing some power on/ power off issues out of no where on all of the devices I use including the TV itself. After troubleshooting most of those, I am having an issue with my Shield that I can’t figure out. Sometimes, out of the blue, it will reboot itself and sometime repeatedly and then start running just fine. Don’t really know where to begin, but I’m leaning toward the developer options being turned on and more specifically, enabling the debuger option. Any thoughts?

If it’s older might be overheating. Blow out the dust. There is also a high performance setting that runs the fan on high I believe.
