I typically disassemble to Shield Pro chassis cover and blow out the dust from all internal components. Also, ensure that the active cooling in the Shield is working.
Check your HDMI-CEC settings on your LG TV. On certain hdmi control settings, it can be set to have all HDMI connected devices to be power aligned with each other during on/off/standby cycles.
I have a shield and never have an issue like that. I have read on Nvidia forums about problems where the random rebooting is symptom of a bad or failing power supply. You might look into joining one of the Shield forums or contacting Nvidia and see if they will send you a new power supply.
If you are using TiVimate you can choose to display the clock in the top right corner of your screen.
Settings>Appearance>Player>Clock and choose your settings. Have fun and a buffer free day.
In everyone’s professional opinion, is it worth buying a new shield pro for 150 bucks? Seems like even though it’s old technology, is it still relevant?
I have 2 shield pro’s. They work great for me. Also have a onn4k. I don’t see a huge difference in speed with opening apps or navigating through the system. Most of the stuff I watch is 1080p. Looks the same to me on both Onn and Shield. I have LG oleds. But again I just use simple stuff. Luckily the shields have not failed on me at all. I’ve had them for about 3 years Onn less than a year.
Although Shield Pros have never been upgraded, they are for sure still more than relevant in the streaming world. Sure, IPTV boxes are catching up (and in some cases passing) spec-wise, but you have to remember that Shield Pros are not IPTV boxes. They are gaming boxes with good streaming capabilities. They are just built different. I have had 2 Shields for a long while, and they have never let me or my family down. I might be biased, but still dont know if I would trade them for anything else, regardless of price tag.
Typically the regular price for the Shield Pro is around $200. You can wait until there is a Black Friday type sale to get a better price. To me the Shield is better than I hoped for. So it’s been worth it to me as I am consistently happy with it.
I do have an ONN Pro and I am far from impressed with it. So it just sits. But there is a very large group that is absolutely enamored with the ONN. So what do I know?
I’m not so certain that the Shield is “old technology”.
Old as not significant updates recently. I’m stuck as I am not sure what to get for a next device. I don’t think I need a 500 dollar device, but decent enough space for multiple apps and good Ram. Saw the shield pro on ali Express for 148 and was considering it
If you are only streaming the Shield (and it’s price) might be overkill IMO. Perhaps get the ONN 4K Pro for $50 an if you aren’t happy with it return it an then get the shield. With 32GB storage it’s all you need for app space.
