Nvidia Shield Pro Setup

@Miki After seeing your message, I also took it apart and was pleasantly surprised to see no dust. Hopefully, it works better now. Thanks for your help.

Excellent. When I took mine apart I was shocked to see how badly my board was coated. Like a blanket lol. I actually bought a full room air purifier with a hepa filter for the dust and the darn smoke we have had this summer. Have fun and STREAM ON. Have a buffer free day.

Good morning all I am very close to buying the Nvidia shield Pro. I need your expertise firstly do I buy the up-to-date unit or go for the 2018/19 version and how to set it up from scratch then was hoping to preload Troy points app.

Thank you

You should go for the most recent one in general as a rule of thumb. Once you’ve set it up and let it do its updates, you can easily get Downloader from the PlayStore and get Troy’s Toolbox that way, or access apps directly through Downloader codes.

Theoretically, you could also use a USB stick and already put whatever apps you want on it. Once you have the Shield, all you will need from the Play Store is a proper File Explorer app to access the USB stick, and grant it install permissions. You can then use that to install all the apks you’ve previously put on your stick already.

What I did was get X-plore and then set up my own internal network to access all my devices. Added a Samsung EVO 256 GB SSD, split it for 2 partitions, 1 50GB for apps(internal), 1 200 GBs for recordings(external) and then played, lol. As @girlwithanumbrella shows, there are many ways to use these devices, it just takes a desire to learn and to test, no simple plug and play.

I used this YT video to set up my Shield Pro when I got it 2 years ago.

I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure out how far of range and Nvidia shield has. If I hook it up in the living room, how far away can I go before I lose signal to stream. I’ve scoured the Internet and can’t get even an estimated range.

It’s Impossible to give a precise range as way to many factors are involved. Everything from line of site obstructions, materials wals are made of, microwaves, to police radios can interfere. Even making sure you find a channel that has the least number of users on it if you are in say a multi unit building. If you have your modem/router in an open location say higher than any shelves or possible obstructions you should easily get 30 feet without signal degradation. 5GHz will go farther than 2.4GHz in open spaces, but 2.4GHz does better through some wall types, I can’t comment on 6GHz as it isn’t available yet on modems from my ISP. My modem was about 6 ft away from my shield when I had one and I used ethernet.

Thank you Miki. That did help. Going to get one today. Hope that’s the best out there. Firesticks are gonna be obsolete befor long.

I was lucky enough to score a Shield Pro for $120 a couple of weeks ago through a Newegg/Paypal special on SlickDeals! It’s taking me a while to “unlearn” the Amazon Firestick way of doing things but I’ve managed with a combination of the Shield remote and the Shield app on my phone. It’s definitely a lot faster than the firesticks (even their latest 4k Pro Max) and I notice this the most on KODI. The firesticks have always been painfully slow but the Shield is as it should be. Hard to believe this is basically 10 year old technology with only a very minor refresh in 2019.

I’m not sure I’d want to pay the $200 street price or even the $170 sale price, but for $120, I’m in!

Sweet deal and congrats! I bought my Shield Pro two year ago on a Black Friday deal. And I am still rocking that box to this day as it is still my #1. I’ve found that the Firestick Alexa Pro remote pairs and work great with the Shield, too.

I might try pairing an Amazon remote with the Shield (I did it with a T95Z box). The Shield remote is slick but missing a couple of key features.

I find that the fire stick remote feels a lot better in my hand better than that doggone triangle looking shield pro remote!

I didn’t even know gaia…. Maybe it’s a new version because the one I’m thinking of is about 7-8 years old or more. I just purchased a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro, because my fire Cube version 3 will no longer stream cyberflix or Cinema HD. I will now set my Kodi and any other app that I think will play on that Shield.

If you have any troubles setting up your new Nvidia Pro, I highly recommend the youtube video I posted above. That’s the tutorial that I used when I got my Pro and was retiring my Cube.

You shouldn’t be having any issues with Cinema on the Amazon device (other than ignoring the warning and “Launching Anyway”).

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
I watched the video on the set up for nvidia shield, perfect. Is it possible to have the guide for nvidia shield step by step like the instructions for kodi builds for fire stick in troy point.

Thank you

Try this link and “download” it:

Kinda irks me that the only manual I can find on the nVidia site is the 2015/17 one.
And, of course, no paper manual in the box when you buy it!
