Nvidia Shield Pro Setup

Good day @Miki ! I slightly remember Gaia being an Addon from several years ago and don’t think it’s around anymore as SoloWarrior pointed out above

Ahh tx @MarkxG. Good to see ya. Ya you know way more about Kodi than I do. Have a happy Sep 01.

I watched this guy’s video back when I got my Shield Pro. I thought that it was great and it really helped me get started. His style is similar to Jayhawks which made it seem really simple to follow.

Wow, the guy said his original videos 4 hours long.! I think I locked and loaded my never shield in 4 hours.

I would like a tutorial on a complete setup and side load setup. I have tried to find content on this and no luck. No one is doing tutorials anymore or I am looking in the wrong place. Please help. Thank you

Did you see the video a few posts up?

Troy hasnt made one specifically for Nvidia that i am aware but many of his videos cover multiple Android devices.

Besides using the Playstore, setting up Developer mode and getting Downloader go a long way.

Yes, I did. Thank you.

The resources are almost limitless. There are a ton of instructions when you search. Basic setup is quite simple but if you want to dig deep into the settings and the developer options then, like me, you could spend hours learning about the multitude of settings and tuning them for your own system. Then there’s the developer options.

That video that Hammer listed above is the one that I used. It was very detailed in the set up.

That video by Lee is great. Be sure to go into the comments and pick the 4 hour video. I used to use his videos and knowledge way back to set up the Shield or any box for that matter. He used to do detailed videos on how to make your own builds. He stopped doing videos a while ago and thats when I found Troy Point :+1:t2:
Also, yes Gaia is still around and recently updated to 7. Lee used to explain that Gaia will scrape Everything, thats why it would take longer than other apps.

Gentlemen,

My Nvidia Shield is beginning to show its age. What would be a great future proof streaming device to purchase especially if you use a lot of Netflix and Prime videos. I don’t need it right away but it is on my bucket list. Perhaps there is something coming down the pike in the near future for Black Friday. Thank you all for your sage advice. I truly appreciate it.

PS: I did try to search this topic to no avail as it said I have used the search too often. I have not used it in months.

There’s no such thing as “future proof" in the tech world. And it would be helpful if you provided more detail about your Shield. Why exactly is it showing it’s age? If there are performance issues, have you tried blowing it out with compressed air and doing a factory reset? The Shield Pro is still one of the best streaming devices available despite it’s age. You may find other Chinese devices with better specs but the UI may be complete garbage and you may run into other bugs. The Shield runs Android TV, which was developed for streaming devices. Other devices may just run on regular Android and can be clunky.

@Jayhawks659 This device keeps freezing when I need it most. I thought it was time for a new one.

To be honest, I am afraid to do a factory reset as I will never get the stuff working again. I am not tech savvy. Thank you for your comment.

Update: I blew it out with compressed air like you said.

That doesn’t make any sense. Because doing a factory reset is no different than buying a new device as far as setting everything up again. You can take notes of all of your settings before you do it. If you use Tivimate or Kodi then you can do a complete backup and restore. If you use verified apps like Netflix then it’s even easier; all you need to do is download and login.

You are 100% correct. In case the Shield keeps having freezing issues I thought I maybe better off just getting a new streaming device and doing it once and be done.

Thank you for your sage assistance.

From my experience @Jayhawks659 hit the nail on the head when he suggested you pop open the case and blow the dust out. I did that and it was like my Shield Pro was brand new. I was shocked at how much dust was on the board. It was like a mat and blocking any airflow to cool it.

I just went from a Nvidia shield 2015 to a Google Streamer 4K and its brilliant really snappy and plays everything flawlessly. Especially if you just Stream a lot of stuff just like me and use tivimate etc it’s brilliant.

It might not be powerful enough if you want to use it as a multimedia hub for your plex and nae server etc but if you just do a lot of streaming via kodi, stremio Netflix etc its fantastic supports all new formats Dolby Vision, Dolby atmos HDR10+, HLG.

@Miki I did not see a lot of dust come out of my Shield.

@Richie78 Thank You.

Did you open it up? I tried just blowing it out through the vents and ended up opening the case to properly clean the board.
